Dr. Hassan Khalil, MD

Dr. Khalil is everything you want in a surgeon - experienced, skilled, knowledgeable, friendly, and caring. He follows up regularly by phone. He listens to you, gives sound advice, and clearly has a profound expertise in thoracic surgery. If you are in the unfortunate position of needing lung surgery, there is no one better to have as your doctor than Dr. Khalil. You are holding a winning lottery ticket with him in your corner.

I had an awful experience with this doctor. I was followed for 4 years with CT scans after a lung nodule of 8mm was found. Everything was good and I was about to be released by my former doctor who was relocating out of the country. But he suggested following up with his replacement, Dr. Khalil. I should have declined.That’s when everything changed, after 4 years of hearing it doesn’t present as cancer. Suddenly, it was highly suspicious for adenocarcinoma, so I had a pet scan (negative) and a bronchoscopy. The surgeon said my nodule was “teeny tiny.” It was labeled non-diagnostic.Yet the lung wash showed no malignancy, benign cells were found in tissue samples, and the last scan showed scattered calcified granulomas, which are benign. But none of that seemed to matter to Dr. Khalil. He wanted to do lung surgery, “just in case.” I refused, and my pcp supports my decision. I had 6 specialists weigh in. Nobody could agree on size. In fact, it may have gotten smaller.
