Dr Ackerman prescribed a vitamin regimen before any bloodwork or diagnostic testing was conducted. The recommendations lacked an evidence-based approach, and no clear medical justification was provided for the prescribed supplements.Does not accept insurance yet invoicing paperwork is done on insurance claim formwork that's illegible.Genuinely bad experience overall.

In my experience, most psychiatrists these days prescribe medication after 15 minutes of evaluation and then send you on your way with follow up appts every 3 months. Dr. Ackerman is a rare gem in that she is a psychiatrist that uses talk therapy as a component of her treatment strategy. Her approach to therapy is holistic and integrative and she holds a strong knowledge base of science-backed alternatives to pharmaceuticals for those wishing to go that route. Harriet is honest, kind and caring. She is incredibly smart and her insights are brilliant. I have seen a multitude of therapists in my life but not one has been as effective in fostering positive change as Harriet. I couldn’t recommend her more highly!

I have known Dr Ackerman as a psychiatrist for 14 years. She is brilliant, insightful , compassionate and a highly competent practitioner. Her knowledge of integrative medicine is strong. Her knowledge of the alternatives to traditional Western psychopharmacology is also strong. Her greatest qualities are deep listening and presenting a spacious and inclusive view of human suffering.Highly recommended.

Excellent therapist
We have worked with Dr Ackerman for over 7 years with my teenage son - she is as helpful for parents as she is for the child with challenges. She is kind and brilliant and constantly questing to better his life and to explore new tests or modifications that could assist him. She has directed us to excellent specialists.

Harriet Ackerman prescribed for me non evidence based treatments of a vitamin regimen and introduction to CBD oil to replace my antidepressants, which had been prescribed for depression by other providers since 1992. After being under Dr. Ackerman’s care for six months, I was admitted to northern Westchester hospital through the psychiatric emergency room, for 13 days. There I was brought back up to the appropriate levels of my original 2 antidepressants, and stabilized, but not without great suffering and permanent consequences.
