Dr. Gustavo Alva, MD

My former psychiatrist retired. I found Dr. Alva and made appt for 2mo later. A few days before the appt, the ofc called me to reschedule it. Next available was 2mo later. I showed up at the ofc and the ofc told me it had been cancelled the day before and they had forgotten to notify me. Made next available appt another 2mo later. I called the day before to confirm. I saw him as scheduled. He asked me to see him again in 1mo. The ofc asked me if I'd prefer to come in again, meet over Zoom, or phone; I chose phone and made the appt. I received an auto-text reminder the day before. Appt time came- No one called, so 30min after the appt I called the ofc. They said he was running late. I called again an hour after the appt and they said he wasn't available that day but an NP could talk with me in 4 days. I stressed I was nearly out of the 30day seizure prescription he wrote & I had to have a refill. The ofc said an NP would call me. Now 4 days later & no call.You decide rating.

Dr. Alva did not consider possible organic causes of my late husband's neuropathy, simply ordering one medication on top of another, masking symptoms and delaying his diagnosis of brain cancer. A simple CT scan would have identified the tumor at an earlier stage, likely giving him more time and better quality of life.

My daughter had the worst experience with this Dr. She has seen quite a few psychiatrist because insurance, etc. Dr. Alva is by far the worst ever. He let her wait for hours and then doesn't listen nor care, prescribes her horrible "uppers" meds, which are dangerous for her. He is only a show-off doctor with no knowledge whatsoever.

Absolutely horrible. My experience with this psychiatrist and his staff. If I could rate this psychiatrist as a "0," I would. I was treated disrespectfully from both his nurse practitioners and himself. The doctor and his NP's treated me like an addict and not a patient. The worst bedside manner of any psychiatrist that I have ever met.

I don't know why the little rating he's an excellent doctor very caring and very professional with an amazing staff I highly recommend in

I known this man for 25 years. The Chief Resident. I been reading a few review sites with him this morning. Mostly, this is a staff problem. Some of the staff is actual Family. Much changed for the better when Jazzie and Angie showed up. There has been rotation as couple of issues 3 staff core office and mgr that has passed years ago. Medical Students do not realize as the rotating staff that Dr. Gus Alva is like Tony Stark from Marvel Comics. He is Top 5 in the world and has been involved in many medication developments in Mental Health. Top person in the world in ALZ. Schizophrenia .... he knows that subject well too. Staff and medical students are likely the culprit in many negative reviews. Also, Dr. Gus Alva has a personal life. He actually goes to Costco... sometimes Starbucks. Don't Forget that either. Bobby Shih is the most hard working honest attention to detail next to Gus Himself. The staff is an issue. Mostly. Rotation. Trained and wear with all. ER is there for a Reason.

This office runs much better since the management change, no cancellations and no more extended wait times. Dr. Alva and Tanya are a great team, they answer my calls and return my messages the same day. I'm very happy with the new staff.

Gus Alva is an excellent doctor. My mom has been treating my mom for over six years and I do not know what we would have done if we had not been lucky enough to be referred to him. He is caring and truly goes above and beyond. His office staff has changed and he now has a great team of people working the front office. They are kind, considerate and do whatever they can to make things as easy as possible.

My Brother passed away on 4.2.16 because his physician Dr Alva did not monitor the side effects of the medication that he was given. I really hope this physician loses his license to treat patients. This Horrible doctor does not care about his patients, all he cares about is being the drug companies henchman and pumping his patients full of meds. He constantly cancels on his patients.

Dr. Alva ordered a change in medication for my brother, who was his patient, without any testing, and failed to provide adequate follow up. Several weeks later he had a serious episode which became an emergency situation. We called his office numerous times, leaving desperate message for assistance, but he never responded. My brother disappeared, and once he was found he had to be hospitalized.
