Dr. Ciuffo is the most competent Dr. I have known
Dr. Ciuffo is kind, straightforward, funny with a superb sense of humor. No beating around the bush. He tells you like it is. I honestly believe he saved my life, and I am truly grateful and in his debt. Dr. Ciuffo was honest in telling me and my family what was to come with the cabbaged and triple bypass procedure. I believe honesty is the best policy in these difficult circumstances. He told me you are going to feel like you got hit by a truck and boy was he right, but that you would feel better and be better soon after and he was right. Three weeks since the open-heart surgery and I feel so fortunate that Dr. Ciuffo was my surgeon.

Amazing Surgeon!
He is a great Surgeon. He told me what I could expect. He had a great team around him and everything was really handled well. I felt pretty crummy coming out of surgery. “He told me I would feel very crummy.” Every day has been a little bit better. I could not be happier. Thank you Dr. Ciuffo!

Best heart surgeon ever
Dr. Ciuffo saved my husband's life. He had three arteries completely closed and one at 50%. Dr. Ciuffo scheduled him for immediate surgery and took his time explaining the procedure and follow up. This man saved my husband's life. Four weeks later he has a clean bill of health.

Saved my life.
I'm a 76 year old man, I went to UMC for an angiogram, I had nearly 100 percent blockages both left and right. I was rushed into surgery, I was prepped and Dr Chiuffo was called in and performed a triple bypass. I had never met Dr Ciuffo. He operated for 5 hours and was successful. I later met the doctor in recovery and thanked him. Doctor Ciuffo has a marvelous bedside manner and a wonderful female assistant and others. I recovered quickly and I highly recommend Dr Ciuffo.

Compassionate man and doctor
I was referred to Dr. Cuiffo after seeing several cardiologists, needless say I was a little frustrated with the whole process. However at my appointment he explained to me what my issue was and how he was going to fix it. He is very compassionate about his patients and profession. All of my questions were answered even before I asked them. Had the surgery and recovery went very well. I was a bit saddened about being discharged from his service because he is a great surgeon and very easy to talk to. If you ever need a cardiac surgeon I would highly recommend seeing Dr Cuiffo

Dr. Ciuffo performed my dad’s emergency open heart surgery. What an excellent doctor who truly saved my dad’s life. I cannot thank him enough. Dr. Ciuffo had very thoughtful, caring, and knowledgable bedside manner. He really took the time to walk my dad and our family through what was happening and what to expect with the procedure. He also used very easy to understand analogies. Super kind and also a funny guy. Would recommend him, goodness forbid you need a heart surgeon. Thank you Doctor!!!

Excellent Surgeon
Dr. Ciuffo has continued to do an excellent job operating with excellent outcomes despite the administrative negligence from the Iowa Board of Medicine. We citizens pray for swift justice and release from the grapples of the incompetent Iowa Board members. Leave our fine surgeons alone. Look at the corporate incompetence not the physicians trying to do the best for the patients.

Truly a man who takes his time!
I worked in the medical field for a decade and have only met 2 doctors who had excellent bedside manor and one was Dr. Ciuffo. In a very stressful time, where information was coming at me from all angles, Dr. Ciuffo was able to take his time and give guidance and answer questions and never appeared to be rushed. A true professional who makes you feel as if you are someone rather than your score on a test. I was very happy with the outcome of my surgery and during the follow up appointment, he took his time and answered questions for nearly half an hour, not once making it feel he had somewhere else to be. That may not translate well when you are in the waiting room, but when you are the patient of interest, it goes a long way. Thanks for the excellent service!

DR. CIUFFO the heart surgeon with a heart!
I spent four days at UMC for my bypass surgery. Dr. Ciuffo was my thoracic surgeon. His medical knowledge was very impressive, and he took the time to explain all aspects of the surgery. Additionally, he stopped by my room every day to provide updates, and some very slight adjustments allowed me to be discharged after a mere four days. I will always be grateful for his care.

Dr Ciuffo has my total and complete support.
While I was getting prepped for the OR, Dr Ciuffo took the time to locate my wife and calmly explain to her what was happening and what to expect after surgery. Dr. Ciuffo has a very calm and reassuring voice which helps with removal of any tension. On his daily rounds, he made it a point to stop by and visit each morning.
