Very thorough!
My mother suffered for months with an infectious disease. While other doctors were able to treat the issue at hand, Dr. Berthold was the only one who took the time to find the root cause. Before the first meeting, she read the entire chart, and came in with suggestions and a game plan. She saved my mom. Thank you!

DO NOT Use this DOC for anyone you care about
She is argumentative, rude and contradicts herself time and time again and then backtracks when we called her out on her changing story of my daughters care. Evetime she came in the room to update us, she gave us different info then we had just received from out Internal Med doc and another infectious disease doc and basically at one point told us we could go home and when internal doc came in said my daughter was way too sick to go home, she agreed with him and I called her out on what she had just said and she called me a liar. I asked her no to come back and we moved forward with care from Dr. kamitsuka who is Absolutley amazing and has helped my daughter get better. I think Dr. Bertholds problem is, she does not understand that because my daughter received some antibiotics during a procedure 5 days earlier, that her cultures are going to look different, but she wants to treat my daughter by the book and her case is different. She has no open mind or free thought process.

I had a new diagnosis and was put on 2 medications. In 2 days I was vomiting & dizzy. This lasted everyday for several weeks. I called 3 times to say I am not doing well with no update back from Dr. Berthold. Only after I was in the hospital for extreme chest pain & nausea did my labs show enough red flags to concern her about my liver. Her messenger told me to stop taking the meds & get ultrasound of the liver. The ultrasound found underlying liver issues. Radiology recommended an MRI. Before having the MRI I was called by her messenger who said to resume the medication because DR. doesn't think this is what is causing my symptoms. The last several weeks have been hell on this medication & psychically debilitating which is very obviously perpetuating my liver symptoms & existing issues. ZERO alternatives were utilized off of the list of other available treatments. Her solution was to continue to deal with the side effects & stress being put on my damaged liver. It's disgraceful.

I would like to leave a ZERO or a Negative number....but 1 is my only option. Dr. Gina Berthold is horrible, condescending and arrogant. I was 1st infected with Lyme Disease going back to over 20 years while living in CT. I recently moved into the Wilmington area. I was reinfected in CT and needed a followup here. She asked my symptoms, asked why I thought I had Lyme and when I told her symptoms, she replied..."That's not a symptom..." Horrible, not educated in Lyme...run for the hill

We had a horrible experience with her. Husband was very sick and we desperately needed a diagnosis. She was rude and disrespectful and contradicted herself several times. She gave us incorrect info about Lymes Disease in NC as she did the patient in other review but that was the least of our problems with her. We had to beg for lab results. Her Assistant would not return our calls and was also very rude and unprofessional. We would never ever recommend her to anyone.

If you need Infectious Disease and you have more than 1 option make sure that Gina Birthold is not the 1 option. If she is, drive as far as you need to to see someone else! In short (since I am limited on characters) her and the entire group she works with is rude, lazy, and ignorant. Any "Dr" who uses a cell phone for a pen light to look in a patient's mouth sends up a red flag. then when they prescribe you the same medication that already failed to work twice that sends another red flag.

Dr Berthold informed me that Lyme disease was not present in North Carolina (and therefore no one here could have it. ) According to the North Carolina Health News website, not only is Lyme disease already here, but the cases are expected to increase drastically due to the tremendous increase in cases in Virginia. Her dismissal of these facts is frightening considering her speciality is infectious diseases.

She's like a cup of coffee in the morning, shes just this amazing up-beat person that leaves you feeling better than when you walked in the door, especially nice considering her field of medicine. Dr. Berthold spends time answering all your questions, never making you feel rushed or like your just a check on today's patent list. I highly recommend her. Her support staff are also friendly and helpful, however the lab can be a little slow.
