I suffered b/c he refused to have anything to do with his past case, me, when I discovered that he had not provided the test result according to medical records, even though testing indicated serious medical condition requiring immediate treatment, so his self-absorbed, curt, cold, irresponsible attitude against my health cost me in every way of life since his bad, poor work in his mishandling of info & his misthinking of my patient case & health as something to drop the ball on.

Dr.Mathern did surgery on our then 8 year old daughter back in 2008. Fast forward 9 years, our daughter has not had a single seizure since the surgery. She has not taken any seizure medication in 8 years. Today, she is 17, on the water polo and swim team, and has her drivers license. All those things would not have been imaginable if it weren't for Dr.Mathern. Forever grateful to him!

I recall that he never properly gave the diagnosis meeting so my child suffered for a long time then when asked about it he refused to discuss blaming institutional information and he talked about wanting to charge money for that meeting which he charged money for.

Saved my daughter's life. She had over 600 seizures in span of three years, had surgery with Dr Mathern, and hasn't had a seizure in 5 years. We are forever grateful to this man.

Evil and uncaring. Refused to check my daughters shunt. Only would take a simple xray. She suffered 3 months with a shunt coiled up in her neck. Would not listen. He did her last shunt revision. Made sarcastic comments to her about how it would not help. Put in an outdated valve that cannot be programmed almost any other neurosurgeon. We found out later that this valve has not been used anywhere for years. Sent her home while she could not even stand. My daughter had nightmares about him.

This amazing doctor saved our daughter's life. After seeing all the specialists on the west coast, who couldn't give us a correct diagnosis, Dr. Mathern was the only one to finally figure it out. The hemispherectomy he performed on our daughter saved her from an immobile life in a power wheelchair. She can walk again (without assistance) and is now attending college.
