Empathetic, engaged, and eminently competent
Dr. Herbert recently performed a 'challenging' surgery on my elderly husband. He spoke to us at length before the surgery, explaining the procedure and its challenges clearly and thoroughly. He was also kind and sympathetic and very patient in answering our many questions. He came out to the waiting room immediately after the long but successful surgery to reassure me that my husband was fine and to explain what had happened in detail (complete with hand-drawn illustrations). He came back a second time after cleaning up to answer any more questions that I might have. He treated my husband with solicitude and respect, which is not always the case with an elderly and slightly disoriented patient. I should add that we asked for the surgery with little advance notice, since the originally scheduled surgery with another surgeon was canceled because of Hurricane Helene. Dr. Herbert graciously accommodated us, though it could not have been easy to fit us into his schedule. 10 stars.

Dr Herbert has been treating my 92 year old father. I can say enough wonderful things about him! He is extremely well versed and very knowledgeable as a surgeon. He is also so patient and kind to my dad. Although I understand what is involved with my dad’s treatment, my dad often doesn’t understand, and Dr Herbert goes above and beyond for all explanations to him including drawing picture for him . I love this Dr!!!
