Be Involved in Follow-up
I felt heard and respected by his NP Athena during my first office visit. I met Dr. C right before surgery and he was wonderful. However, I just left my follow-up appt with the NP and am in tears. I raised a concern about part of my incision. Her reaction was belittling and downplayed as a “cosmetic” concern. She stated it would not be something they would fix, but she would refer me to a plastic surgeon! Seriously? I had a concern about a 1/2 inch section of my incision! Dr. C was in he office at the time. Would it have been so much trouble for either of them to talk to me with respect and discuss a more simple option to fix a small section of an incision they made? He will never know my respect for him and gratitude for helping me. He will now only hear negative information about me. There will be no complete explanation of why I am upset by the belittling “it’ll be fine” attitude and the unrealistic solution. Even a small concern from a patient deserves acknowledgment and respect.
