I went in to the ER for a suspected ovarian cyst. I was in pain and bleeding (not on my period). The wait time was surprisingly quick for the ER, I was in a room within 2 hours on a Thursday afternoon. My nurses were incredible. Check in and triage staff were incredible. But the doctor I saw at the end is why I am giving one star. My doctor was Garrett Sterling. Never saw him til it was time to read my results. Once my CT came back, he came in (without my papers in hand), and told me there was nothing there and that it was likely pain from my intestines. (Lol no, that was for the people across from me who came in with colitis…). My nurse comes in minutes later with CT results saying “you were right it’s a cyst” and I said WHAT? Called Dr Sterling back in to chat, and he tried to mansplain my entire chart to me. I stopped him, politely explained he was wrong, said I do have a cyst, and then he copped an attitude. I said “intestinal pain doesn’t cause vaginal bleeding, so…” and then he doubled down and said that ovarian cysts can’t cause pain and then stormed out. I was appalled. My nurse didn’t know what to do. My husband was seething. So this doctor not only misdiagnosed me, but then backtracked with an attitude upon being politely called out and said “oh yeah it’s there sure, but it’s not causing your pain. Cysts don’t cause pain.” Okay well my other ovary doesn’t hurt and there’s no cyst on that one per the CT, so riddle me that?! Absolutely TERRIBLE doctor. Stay away from him if you go to the ER here. He should be fired. And I will be reporting.

I will NEVER go to Sharp Memorial Hospital ER ever again because of Dr. Sterling. It’s truly a shame that he is in the medical field. He was rushing and not listening. He was in and out of my room in less than 2 minutes. He asked me how long I have had my cough TWICE and also if I was allergic to any medications TWICE within the very short time he interacted with me. You can easily tell he’s very distracted, disorganized, and careless. After asking the nurse if I can speak to the doctor since I had some questions because he rushed out of my room. He came back and while I was talking he was rolling his eyes and folding his arms. He was very rude and condescending and brushed off any concerns I had. Weeks later I ended up in urgent care and found out that Dr. Sterling had MISDIAGNOSED me and prescribed me antibiotics for a viral upper respiratory infection. The urgent care doctor explained that my viral symptoms got worse because I took the antibiotics. I usually have tough skin and can handle people who are rude and have a bad attitude, but to be rude AND misdiagnose me!….he truly has nothing positive to offer to Sharp and he’s making them lose patients. As long as Dr. Sterling still works for Sharp, I will NEVER step foot in Sharp Memorial’s ER. Please do yourself a favor and do NOT allow this doctor to “take care of you.”
