Words cannot express our gratitude and thanks to Dr. Souslian (we call him 'Dr. Seuss'), the neurosurgeon who saved my father's life, and his team at Sinai Hospital. Dr. Souslian is an amazingly talented surgeon, but he is an even a better person. He cares and it shows. Responding to concerns with messages and texts at 1:00 am, visiting in the hospital on a Sunday afternoon, spending hours of his time to get procedures approved on a rush basis, and treating us like family. Amazing. . .

Life Saver
Dr. Souslian saved my daughter’s life at Regions Hospital in St Paul, MN. She needed emergency brain surgery on 5-30-18 due to a head injury sustained in a motor vehicle collision. I was scared, crying, and all sorts of stuff. He introduced himself to me and my family. He asked me to pray he also prayed. I was so stressed and scared that that I don’t really remember a lot of the things that happened that day. What I do remember is he was try to explain what procedure she was going to have. He also mentioned the possibility of her not surviving due to the severity of her injuries. That really scared me. The whole team was awesome. Unfortunately I didn’t get to talk to Dr. Souslian after the procedure because he was rushed into another emergency surgery immediately after my daughter’s surgery. I am truly grateful and blessed that he was working at Regions Hospital when my daughter had her accident. I believe he is the reason my daughter survived. I’m forever thankful to whole trauma team

Cauda Equina Surgery
I was too out of it to thank Dr. Souslian the day of my emergency spine surgery for partial cauda equina at Regions in Saint Paul. I made it out of surgery with the ability to walk which was not a for sure outcome. I have no idea what kind of bedside manner he has, but I would feel confident with him as a surgeon again. When it comes down to it, successful outcome is the most important thing.

One year ago, I met Dr. Souslian and immediately could tell how different he was from other Neurosurgeons and docs I've seen. From the start of that first appointment, surgery was the obvious route (and I have a challenging underlying condition), but he was conservative and careful to plan my first ACDF surgery. He recognized my suffering and pain. Before my second surgery, a posterior cervical fusion, he was meticulous in planning, researching, and making certain the surgery was exactly what my body needed. While it hasn't been long since that second one, I know that it was successful. Additionally, he treats you like family (he doesn't just say that) and spends the time needed to talk to you to understand your diagnoses and the plan. As a patient, I am a part of the team. Dr. "Sous" cares about his patients and doing what is best for you individually. There is no "surgeon ego" like others I've seen. I am thankful for Sous and the entire team at Neurosurgery One and his PA!

I'm 75 with chronic lower back pain from arthritis, stenosis, and deteriorated disk. I have suffered with this for nearly 20 years, including sever upper leg pain and incontinence. My MRIs look like a literal train wreck. My PCP referred me to Dr. Souslian because he strongly believes in "minimally invasive" surgeries to address specific issues. I discovered that Dr. Souslian, who is a nationally-recognized excellent neurosurgeon, does not focus on HIS surgery, but on the PATIENTs well-being. In our first visit he did a very extensive examination, and referred me to numerous other specialists - so that IF we decided on surgery, it would be the best option. Dr. Souslian actually wanted me to find relief and healing without surgery, if at all possible. He is NOT a "cut-for-the-bucks" surgeon! I could go on with this, but I'll just end with the fact that my chronic back pain is 90% gone, my leg pain totally gone, and we are not going to have surgery. I reccomend most HIGHLY!

I had a 5 hour round trip to see him and he spent 10 minutes with me. Also have had no answers to the test I had done and he had no answers for me. A big waste of my time.

I would highly recommend Dr. Souslian. He saved my life and was extremely supportive toward my family before and after surgery for a life threatening brain injury. A follow-up surgery months later and months of follow-up appointments were all handled very professionally. Again, highly recommend him!

dr. Souslian performed my lumbar spinal fusion L3, L4and L5- he was great! Was direct, yet honest, about my condition. Always explained everything to me. He will try a conservative approach first as doing a fusion is not a small matter. After a year and a half of being miserable, I am finally pain-free. Very precise and excellent at what he does. I loved his personality and would highly recommend Dr. Souslian!!

Dr. Souslian put me through the hoops before doing my spinal fusion surgery, but that was to insure that I was ready for the surgery. I had incisions both anterior and posterior. I was off pain meds in less than 2 weeks and was back to work in 5 weeks (minimum estimate was 6 weeks). Prior to surgery I couldn't walk or stand without pain. Immediately after the surgery, I was pain free. I'm now 8 months post surgery and it truly changed my life for the better! Dr. S and his staff are great!!!

I recommend finding another doctor. It might have been the worst doctor experience of my life. He clearly never listening to me, he had an idea in his head before he came into the room and nothing could deviate from it. After an hour when I repeatedly told him why I was there, instead of why he thought I was there, he got very condescending and told me I was wrong and my MRI didn't support my symptoms. I left. I'll find a better doctor.

Dr. Souslian took the conservative approach of trying PT for 10 weeks and then a nerve root block and epidural steroid injection after 6 months we decided surgery was the next step.C5-C6 and C6-C7 anterior cervical disk fusion. I was up and walking 12 hours after surgery with minimal pain-one week post op pain free-back to work at 5 weeks and still pain free at 3 month post op-Dr. Souslian has great confidence in his ability and tells it like it is-only complaint is appointment times run late

Dr Souslian took the time to explain his findings from xrays,MRIs, physical exam, and my symptoms that made me feel confident with his offer to surgically correct my herniated disc and stenosis which was causing severe radiculopathy. I had the surgery at Regions Hospital and found the staff to be very kind and professional. I had the best anesthesia experience and woke up as if I took a little nap. I awoke to NO radiculopathy symptoms and felt much better than before the surgery! Great team!
