I am having VSG surgery (Gastric Sleeve Surgery) in April 2024 with Dr. Emma Patterson and she has been absolutely AMAZING throughout the process. I was surprised how quickly the process has gone from the first Consultation to the expected surgery date itself! I had heard of people having to wait 6 months to a year or more before getting surgery from start to finish but I only had to wait 3 month (90 days!) I understand now that has a lot to do with your insurance and their requirements and my health insurance only requires a 3 month (90 day) wait period so I suppose I’m lucky in that regard, there were some required things to do before hand like a Psychological Evaluation, EKG, Nutritionist Evaluation, Sleep Study and four appointments with the Surgeon before the surgery itself which I was able to do all the required things within about one month (except for the final appointment with Dr. Patterson at the end of March to schedule the surgery and she expects that to be in April) because I wanted to get it all done as quickly as I could. They are very fast to respond with any questions and getting appointments were easy and flexible which is great considering they are an extremely popular and busy business. I also found out that I have severe Sleep Apnea so I am extremely grateful to find this out and I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t started this process. I had suspected I may have had Sleep apnea a couple years back after I quit smoking but now I know I have a severe case. I am now using a CPap machine every night for about two weeks now and I can already tell the difference, my “brain fog” as I called it and daytime sleepiness is GONE. Dr. Patterson seems like a very straight to point sort of person and I really appreciate that, she gets right to the point without dancing around things and tells you exactly what you need to do, I wasn’t sure which surgery I wanted to do in the beginning but Dr. Patterson went through much of my history and she recommended a Sleeve Gastrectomy so she was very helpful in helping me decide which surgery is right for me. I will absolutely be referring Dr. Patterson to anyone that is interested in any kind of Bariatric surgery, she knows her stuff and you’ll be in good hands

For some reason, I was struggling with a tight band. After 3 weeks I knew I needed to have some fill removed so I could eat/drink normal amounts again. I'm 16 yrs. post op, with little or no issues. Dr. Patterson was quick to get me into the office, even though the office was closed that day. Great response to a situation that I had let go a little too long. Hoping now to find out why band tightened so I can be aware of it before I get in the same situation.

Not recommended - lacks compassion
I am sure Dr. Patterson is an excellent surgeon, however I would not recommend her for weight loss surgery. My experience was significantly lacking in after care. While complications happen, I expect my surgeon to treat me with care and compassion. That was sorely lacking in my experience with Dr. Patterson.

Rigid
I was unable to stick with the diet Dr. Patterson prescribed, and I said I did not wish my band tightened. Dr. Patterson said that unless I followed her plans she would not help me further. Though I was happy and grateful for the band, I felt that Dr. Patterson should have offered to help me to the extent she could.

Exceptional Care
I felt listened to and taken care of every step. The Wilshire surgery center was amazing! Dr. Patterson is very thorough, and shoots straight. If you are looking for coddling look elsewhere. She’s passionate about her patients safety and care.

Dr. Patterson wouldn't let me ask questions on my consult and has little to no bedside manner. I'm sure she is good at what she does but is not understanding of people with allergies or following a vegetarian/vegan diet. I've lost quite a bit of weight which I was proud of but she told me I wasn't losing weight fast enough and other people loose weight much faster, which may be true, but it negated any success I felt. I'm glad my insurance covered most of the cost of this surgery or I'd be way more upset with the quality of patient care. It would be more helpful if she acted caring or compassionate to her clients with such a huge life change.

I'm 3 months post operative for gastric sleeve and I'm just thrilled with my results and my experience with Dr. Patterson and her practice. Dr. Patterson is very thorough. She is a straight shooter and doesn't mence words or sugar coat the process of pre and post operative. She provides every tool possible to help her patients. I had a wonderful experience at the surgical center and felt like I got the best care. Dr. Patterson is a wonderful doctor and has given me exceptional care. I had to pay out of pocket for the entire procedure and I think it's the best decision I've ever made. I had the absolute best possible recovery and I attribute that to Dr. Patterson's level of skill in this procedure. My scars are tiny and minimal and I had little post operative pain despite also having a hernia repair during my gastric sleeve surgery. I highly recommend Oregon Weight Loss Surgery.

Dr Patterson was my vsg surgeon, everything's was simply perfect. My surgery was without complications and included a hernia repair as well, I anchored Post Op 9 months now with 90lbs lost. I can run for 20 minutes straight when I could barely walk half a mile before. I literally owe her my life. Thank you Dr Emma!

Dr Patterson is a skilled Surgeon. I had a gastric sleeve August 2014 and did very well. She explained what to expect so there weren't any surprises. Her staff is efficient and caring. I would recommend her in a minute.

Very unfeeling, cold and abrasive. I did not get the feeling she cared. Said she was not sure if she wanted to take me on as a client. If I'm going to have major surgery like this...it will be with someone i think cares. I was very upset after this appointment. Will be scheduling with a different provider
