Unprofessional Office/Messy
Made an appointment for the new year to do labs, labs were not ordered. Then was assured by Dr. Chang to go for a redraw, went for the redraw. Waited a week for the results, the office never contacted me for the results. I called the office to find out the specific test was never drawn. It’s like pulling teeth with this office you constantly have to call them for answers because they don’t reach out to you. I’ve doubted this office since the very beginning with the very fast appointments feeling rushed and not listened to but given the benefit of the doubt. I’ve always said Maby it’s just a bad day for them, but it continues no matter what day it is. If Zero rating was an Option for this office. Hopefully no other individual experiences what I’ve been through.

Very knowledgeable
Dr. Chang is an excellent doctor, and I agree with another reviewer Dr. Chang is very straightforward and direct. He does have a soft side, though...but, he doesn't allow that side to color his educated and experiential opinion, however. My daughter, my son and me have seen Dr. Chang for the past 10 years and he had referred us to the best doctors that UCLA has to offer when we were in need.

Three Years Too Long
I've been seeing Dr. Chang for three years and finally had my breaking point. He's rescheduling my appointment and the first available is in two months. Prior to this he's be routinely rude, short, and lack of care in his appointments. He's made me feel shameful for coming in to see him and has shown a lack of interest in a car accident I had. In fact, he failed to help me find a second opinion for my spine injury. Something basic you think your PCP would do. I do not recommend seeing him!

I find Dr. Chang to be smart, attentive, and informative. He has a direct communication style. I trust that I get direct answers to the questions I ask and if there is an issue that Dr. Chang spots in a test result or otherwise, he says it how it is. This is a style that works well for me but is not necessarily one that will work for everyone, so consider this carefully. He has gone out of his way for me in times when I needed it, for example, to make sure I get medication or referrals on very short notice in cases of emergency. He errs on the conservative side so that you do not get unneeded treatment. If this review describes the kind of doctor you are looking for, I highly recommend Dr. Chang.

How could someone with this personality be working at UCLA. He doesn't listen or give a patient a chance to talk. Plus he is rude and disrespectful.

I adored Dr. Chang. I guess it depended on what you're looking for. He really listened to my concerns about my son and valued my opinions and the research I had done, which is sometimes hard to find in a pediatrician. He went completely out of his way to help me with an insurance issue involving speech therapy, even using his own time, and was kind which put my small child at ease. He's not quick to doll out prescriptions and will sometimes take a non-interventionist approach, but I like that.

We are in shock at some of these reviews of Dr Chang, we've moved from Los Angeles, but saw Dr Chang for many years. He was always exceptional, compassionate and very kind hearted, with great bedside manner. This guy works all over in every area of LA, and serves the very poorest and destitute, and manages a huge patient load. I certainly agree UCLA works their doctors to death and maybe its worn on him, but he's certainly one of the best doctors with whom the two of us have ever had.

This guy is rude, uncaring, and has the personality of a coat hanger. He doesn't respond to a patient's needs and leaves them waiting for a response if ever he does and is completely unprofessional when addressing your concerns. His ego and discourteous behavior should have him confined to solitary confinement in a labratory not exposure to live patients.

Dr. Emery H Chang begins with attacking your health record. His first words out of his mouth were pointing out your know problems, instead of addressing the reason why you came to visit UCLA Santa Monica Urgent care. He didn't even look at my throat which was the issue, said take fluonase.
