Dr. Elangovan Balakrishnan, MD

Dr. Balakrishnan suddenly changed my grandmother's treatment last minute. We had a plan before the change that my grandmother agreed with. My mother with my aunts are making the decisions together after grandma's surgery. Yes it is Lymphoma, it's aggressive, but grandma made her decision. No more treatment, no medicine, just meds to numb the pain. This back track made ALL of us even more stressed and unheard. From what I heard from my mother, Dr. Bala was very insistent about the change without offering many reasons why. He seemed very impatient and not very friendly. He has a thick accent, and my mother and grandmother get overwhelmed when they can't understand people. Not a pleasant experience. Had to complain to the Charge nurse. She already knew where the complaint was going when his name was mentioned. Almost like complaints against him are normal, I guess.

Dr Balak prefers to watch a computer monitor rather than have a serious discussion with a patient. Does not ask what the patient wants to do. Indifferent and waits for nurses to explain diagnosis and treatment. Doesn't do a thorough body assessment each time for any changes. Is not open for new treatments, prefers conservative routines that he knows only has 20% survivorship. Could not reach him by phone, always had to talk to nurse. While in hospital he never showed up for a visit, again he was too busy. Perhaps he is burned out.

He jumped on my cancer very quick.

He chooses to use previous visits to other Doctors to diagnose my issues he looked at past blood work and decided not to go any further than that he had determined that I have cirrhosis and enlarged spline causing my problems he had a cbc blood panel done and said I should take a B12 supplement never in my life have I ever been dismissed so quickly without actually doing anything

From our first visit together I felt confident that together he could help me beat my cancer and come through it with positive results! He’s got an after plan to help me stay ahead of anything that might creep back!

He’s very kind and answered all my questions about my dad. He took his time and didn’t make us feel rushed. When we left, I feel like I was well informed about my dad‘s condition. I was having abnormal bowel issues and I was concerned my hormone blocker was causing some of my issues. Dr. Balakrishnan immediately ordered a CT Scan of my Abdomen and a Colonoscopy. He has been the best doctor I've ever had. Never overlooks anything.

Had an early consultation prior to surgery for wide excision and lymph node biopsy. He answered all my questions and was able to get a CT scan scheduled for me on short notice.

I have been seeing Dr. Bala since 2015 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and would highly recommend him to anyone. I’ve been cancer free since 2016 and I feel confident knowing he has me under his surveillance.
