Excessive surgery on 95 year old no follow up
I went to the pre op visit with my 95 year old father to understand the surgery necessary and let the doctor and his office know that I was the contact person and wanted a phone call after the procedure. He performed extension surgery without any calls or follow up leaving my father on a feeding tube and requiring another procedure that was not what was discussed with us. His office refused to follow my father or return calls and denied I was the contact person. He no longer practices at this office and I was told they had several complaints about him. My father is in a nursing home and I am in charge of his care and finances. SHAME ON HIM and his office.

Dr Akary 10 plus! His staff - 1 is being nice.
I saw Dr Akary for 2.5 years & every treatment & Dr-Patient interaction has been a positive experience. The opposite has been true of his staff in managing my care renewals, insurance & billing. Despite assurance they'd renew my referral on time moving forward, they did NOT. The last time they missed it, I fought my insurer to send me back to Dr Akary instead of a new provider. This time I won't fight if they don't renew 'a provider who won't comply.' That's really why I'm on this site ... looking at other urologists' reviews for worst case outcome :-(

My elderly father was discharged from a HCA facility and Dr Akary recommended a discharge with an indwelling catheter for 1-2 weeks pending an outpatient follow-up. He was is urology consultant while he was admitted. He was discharged from the hospital with urosepsis , andhad to be readmitted in less than 24 hours post discharge. He was started on antibiotics and again was discharged 4 days later with the indwelling Foley catheter to follow-up with an urologist in 1-2 weeks. We have been trying to get an appointment with Dr Akary or ANY other urologist for a follow-up visit. This was a futile endeavor!!! The earliest appointment we got for this 90 year old patient that these healthcare professionals gave a UTI and sent home with an indwelling catheter ( he had no catheter prior to hospitalization) was 3-4 weeks post discharge!!!! The staff in the office were rude, ill-mannered and condescending. I think this should be reported to the State Department for further review.

Helpful and kind! Spends time with his patients!
I went to Dr. Akary for a problem of frequent urination. Every time I’ve seen him he talks to me the patient and spends time with me. He explains his thinking and the what I need to do to help myself, or help the problem. I’m not just another person on his list of people to get through the day. He is very caring and kind. He said explores all options before jumping to conclusions, and seems to genuinely care. Highly recommend! His high energy is contagious and you leave his office happier. I feel that I found the right doctor to help my medical needs and would recommend him.

Patient care...
Met Dr. Akary in ER at LWR Medical Center as he was the Dr. on call. Don't recall much about first visit, I was very uncomfortable, but he proceeded to temporarily fix the problem (a stone in kidney). My problem is that I need to finish the procedure by removing the stone and I am not getting proper cooperation from Dr. Akary or staff. If I had a choice, I would not choose Elite Urology or Dr. Akary.

Very pleased
After being abused and exploited by an HMO-recommended urology practice, I need a doctor who was both highly skilled and patient focused. Dr Akary is that physician, and he did excellent work.

My first experience with Dr. Akary
My first visit with Dr. Akary went very well. He listen to my problem and carefully explained the physiological conditions that could possibly cause it. He made me feel positive that he could possibly correct some of my issues. I have read the reviews on this site and agree making contact with is office is very difficult.

The best in his field that I have encountered
Dr. Akary Is the finest urologist I have ever encountered. He listens, spends time with his patients and is extremely focused on their individual problems. The practice is a mess and he left them as of 3/31/22. I do not know where he went, but I am certainly going to make every effort to track him down.

AVOID THIS DOCTOR
My husband was taken to emergency at Lakewood Ranch hospital with a life-threatening infection and was treated by Dr. Akary. The few times my husband saw Dr. Akary he rushed through and treated my husband as if he were an inconvenience. My husband needed an immediate percutaneous nephrostomy. Dr. Akary scheduled it for a Friday morning, then Fri. afternoon, then Monday, then Wednesday. No explanation. I asked the nurses every day for 8 days to have Dr. Akary call me to find out about my husbands condition. No response EVER. I tried calling his office constantly but you can't reach anyone and they never return calls. Even their emergency number is not answered. I finally got the percutaneous nephrostomy done by calling the radiology dept. at the hospital directly after my husband was released. A follow-up appt. was the week after my husband was released, but we arrived to be told it had been cancelled. No explanation. Told to go to our regular urologist. Worst experience.

While I had a great 1st experience with Dr. Akary himself, the office staff leaves a lot to be desired. The do not answer the phones, do not return voicemails, and simply seem to be miserable in their chosen profession. Sadly, I am now considering finding another Dr. because I simply cannot get in front of Dr. Akary due to his staff. I get staffing shortages, etc., but you are still running a business and customer service do some degree of success, is still expected. The patients did not vote for the current healthcare policies, the government did. Don't take it out on us. If you don't like your job, do us all a favor and find a new one.

I've been to Dr. Akary twice and at 73 I've seen a few urologists in my time. Dr. Akary is the most competent and accessible doctor - in any specialty - I've ever come across and I'm not easy to please. His communication style is clear, understandable and patient. A great physician IMO.

Patient Beware - From the first meeting, its was very apparent, this doctor Eihab Akary, has no bedside manner or even capable of being a decent human being or a professional for that matter. This doctor seemed so frustrated with even the first question I asked like I was bothering him. Don’t come to him with any questions, if you don’t want to be pressured in to shutting up immediately. From then on, Doctor refused to call back and on several occasions.Doctor even lied to me about kidney stone surgery results sent to pathology. You will as a patient, immediately upon first meeting, regret using him as a doctor, please use your valuable time on choosing a four to five star doctor and please for the love of yourself, forget the 1 star doctor here.
