Dr. Vantassel is very thorough every time I see him. I feel he is very good on his recommendations on how to treat my problems. I was told by 2 other doctors that I needed to have my left knee replaced and he said I don't at this time. I like that he does not push surgery as first option.

As far as his experience for TKR I have no complaints. He knows what he is doing. He is also very arrogant but then most Dr’s are. My one complaint is that he is not sticking up for his patients when it comes to pain management. I know the state is coming down on opioids but he only gave me 9 days of hydrocodone 10-325 and then a week of 5-325 and then 5 days of Tramodal. Not sure I would have gone thru with the TKR if I had known this before. The pain is driving me to other pain relief

Dr. Van Tassel will give it to you straight. He talks to you about the procedure and what the procedure involves. He doesn't waste your time or his valuable time. He did an excellent job with my total knee replacement and will do the other one when I feel the time is right. He does not sugar coat the operation. A very straight shooter and an excellent surgeon. All of the support staff are friendly and courteous and very helpful.

He was instantly perceived as arrogant. I spent far more time waiting in his exam room for him than he spent with me...maybe 5 minutes MAX!...for BOTH sessions. I am now in my late 70s, but I spent 31 years as a career law enforcement officer in Sacramento, CA mostly on patrol. I do not wish to be considered over the hill until I am at least 100. Dr. Van Tassel should display a silent awareness that if he had no patients, he would have no job. I served my time. He needs to serve his.
