Needs Sensitivity Training
I will be transitioning to a new PCP following my visit with Dr. Akpan. She has no understanding of how to treat an individual once she has noticed any mental health related crises in their file. She can be rude and does not allow space for an individual to advocate for themselves.

A LIFE SAVER
My experience with Dr Akpan was outstanding and I would recommend her services to anyone. Dr. Akpan literally saved my life.

Would not recommend
I now understand why this provider has so much open availability. Very disappointed. Dr. Akpan was not personable, and did not attempt to even feign care or compassion when sharing concerns. Absolutely would not recommend her for anyone with any hx of mental health or trauma, as she does not seem well versed on how to have conversations around this, but instead will write notes about it in chart without discussing with patient.

She was incredibly thorough and affirmative in her care. She addressed all my concerns in my initial visit to establish care and didn’t hesitate to order testing.

no bedside manner
Saw her due to availability but now I know why she doesn't have a lot of appointments. Will not be back to see her again.
