Dr. Donald Shields, MD

Dr. Shields assistant Landon Hewell PA did an initial assessment to determine a potential plan of care. He allowed me to be in the decision making process and discussed it with Dr. Shields. The best part was he listened to me, and I left the office feeling like I had a good plan to follow and will follow back up with Dr. Shields. The office staff were friendly and efficient.

I saw Dr. Shields for a second opinion in late September for consistent lower back pain. He reviewed my xrays and MRI and recommended a fusion as the first Dr had said. The difference was his demeanor and obvious knowledge and competence. He was calm, deliberate and thorough in his explanations and answered all of my questions. I will be having surgery in a couple weeks and have faith he will help me.

Dr Shields was very direct and professional in his diagnosis. The staff were the highlight....Abby and Rebecca were amazing. The entire staff showed there is kindness still out there! I loved Dr. Schiff !

Explained what was causing my pain showing me X-rays they took. Advised me not to go with surgery as it would be extensive with long recovery.

After an accident at school our son had to have emergency brain surgery. Dr. Shields explained the procedure (craniotomy) quickly but assured us that time was a factor so he took our son to surgery but had a member of his team stay back to answer our questions. Dr. Shields called us personally after surgery was done and has been very attentive ever since. He explained everything well to our son and made him understand the severity of his injury. Dr. Shields and his trauma team are TOP NOTCH and our son is alive today and progressing remarkably. Thank you Dr. Shields!

If you love your loved ones do not leave them in this man’s care. He had my family members diagnosis completely wrong and told us there was no point in treating her and we fought him on it and she came out after surgery for months better without any complications. He had no care about her life in the slightest. On top of that we have over heard him saying he just wants to hurry up and leave for the Christmas holiday and not deal with her anymore. She is dying and he has absolutely no remorse of care to help because he would rather be on vacation. No sympathy was shown to us as a family he was shrugging his shoulders as he told us there’s not anything else he will do for her. Dave your time and find yourself a surgeon who will actually help because all he wants is your money he doesn’t care about his patients.

90 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I was called from main waiting area. No one informed me at anytime of any delays. When I did see Dr Shields, he seemed unfamiliar with any of my history and particularly didn't care.

Dr Shields is a very good doctor very thorough professional caring good communicator both he and his staff work together well it was it was a pleasure going to the office very clean easy in and out no long waiting periods everyone is eager to help I highly recommend Dr Shields

Dr. Shields is a great doctor. He’s very understanding and listens to your concerns. He takes time with the patient to help them with their health issues. I highly recommend him.

Dr Shields did a great job he explains everything so you understand what to expect. He did neck fusion surgery but also in the process recreated the curvature to my neck to prevent other issues down the road. Also I had some muscle spasm issues which addressed in a quick manner

Dr Shields performed ACDF at C5C6 and removed excess bone in my throat area. The surgery went well and fusion is complete after a year. He answered all my questions and explained the surgery. He always was attentive during office visits and was very professional.

Really appreciated the time Dr Shields took to go over the test results and give me thorough explanations of the options for treatment going forward.

I don't feel I was taken seriously about my problem because it was not caused by an injury and that I he had not been the first to see me about it. Referred me to pain management. That's not a cause to my pain and not a solution.

Dr. Shields listens and addresses questions and concerns. He is very caring and informative as well as professional.
