I did not know there was worse than terminal brain cancer before meeting Dr. O’Rourke. Masking his incompetence with overconfidence, he will lure you into surgery with big, flashy promises without sharing with you actual risks and probabilities. He has a rare talent for turning fully functional, young patients into human vegetables in a matter of hours as he is incapable of recognizing critical brain structures, and even more incapable of admitting his mistakes. He has probably gained his medical degrees and awards through impersonation—what a wonderful place the world would be without him!

I had surgery with Dr. O'Rourke back in 2013. Unbeknownst to me at the time the surgery was incredibly successful. I had a cervical fusion. Dr. O'Rourke is without a doubt one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. He is not warm and fuzzy but he's very good where it matters. I'm many years out from my surgery and doing well. I actually followed his career because I also find his work incredibly fascinating even though I don't fully understand it. The man is brilliant.

Not a single complaint to think of, Dr. O’Rourke and his team are very informative and thorough from the beginning of the process and throughout post surgery actions. This was my first time having brain surgery but after getting opinions from two other highly regarded neurosurgeons prior I had no doubt in my mind he was the best. The transparent communication between the neurology department and neurosurgery department at Penn couldn’t have been better. I would ONLY recommend going to Penn!

I had excruciating sciatica pain down my right leg, a pulling sensation in my lower back, and my foot was going numb. I had Physical Therapy and injection, but there was no relief. I was repeatedly reaching for pain pills, and my boyfriend said "you need to stop the pain pills and go see the doctor." Dr. O'Rourke performed laminectomy at my L4-L5, and I feel 100% better. Dr. O'Rourke and his Nurse Practitioner Lisa were amazing! Thank you for helping me! I am now pain-free

After many second opinions, and speaking to others at the same hospital, I came to realize that he didn't perform the surgery in the most efficient and effective manner. He performed a craniotomy for a Pituitary Tumor when 6 other prominent Neurosurgeons throughout the US all agreed that it should have been done endoscopic endonasal. He is arrogant and his bed side manner is 0. He should have referred me to a pituitary specialist

I would most definately recommend Dr. O'Rourke to anyone in need of a highly competent neurosurgeon. I had 2 surgeries in the last 3 years performed with the utmost professionalism. One was a type of brain surgery for a condition called Chiari Malformation and the other a lumbar surgery with nerve root compression. Many doctors would not treat (or had even heard of Chiari Malformation). I am so grateful for Dr. O'RourkO'Rourke; I am able to function without the pain and other symptoms I had.
