Dr. Downer owes me an apology for age and gender discrimination and failing to treat me. I came to him after months of waiting to see a corneal dry eye specialist when an acute staph pneumonia bacterial eye infection that I couldn’t shake left me with sudden, profound and painful dry eyes. He referenced my age and said that post-menopausal women ‘get dry everywhere’ and advised me, annoyed when I pushed back, to get used to it and use over-the-counter lubricant and set me up on a bi-monthly ‘follow up’ $chedule.Sir, I don’t know what personal problems you’re having with post menopausal women in your life, but I assure you my problem wasn’t and isn’t being dry everywhere. It was counting on a doctor to listen to and treat me with respect. Not project.Issue revolved elsewhere because I didn’t take get used to it for an answer.

Dr. Downer performed my bilateral cataract surgery. I feel so fortunate to have had the surgery performed by a surgeon with his level of skill. The experience and the results were excellent! Also- every Clay Eye staff person I encountered was extremely competent and kind.

Dr. Downer performed bilateral cataract surgery with lens implant on me. The procedure went very well. He explained everything he did and prior to the surgery he discussed with me at length what I wanted my enhanced vision results to be. We discussed my job requirements, hobbies etc. and I couldn't be happier with my vision!

Can’t speak highly enough about Dr Downer. He completed surgery on both of my eyes and I can see so much better. Colors are bright and vivid. Glad I went to him.

Dr. Downer recently performed my Monovision (implanting 2 lenses). Eye for close-up is incredible! Haven't been able to read for along time. The distance is not as crisp as had hoped. Probably will need a slight rx correction for driving. The experience was easy and totally pain-free. Staff at Clay Eye, the Fleming Island Surgery Center & Dr Downer, were great, even in their extremely busy times. Only suggestion would be to add another Scheduler for Dr Downer, as the current one appears over-worked & stressed. And that, coms across to the patients. All-in-all, very pleased to be able to see again!!

Dr. Downer has been treating my Glaucoma for 4 years. He is professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. My disease has been carefully supervised and has not progressed.

I had surgery done there a year ago by Dr. Downer - a total regret. He was arrogant and the surgery actually made my condition worse, although he said it would cure the problem. The procedure and post-procedure were very painful, although he promised I'd only "be uncomfortable" for a few hours. It lasted weeks and the end result was my eyesight is worse. Now after almost a year they have the cojones to send me another bill even though I had already paid all my deductibles and co-pays on time.

I scheduled an appointment for today; yesterday, my wife called to confirm it. I arrive, only to be told that I would be seeing another physician, one I've never seen before. After waiting 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time, I was told that the other physician would not refill a prescription that Dr. Downer has prescribed for several years. My trip was a complete waste of time. Needless to say, I will find another physician.

New to this practice and I have seen Dr. Downer several times and am very happy with his professionalism and explaining things so I can understand them.

Dr. Downer and the practice, is efficient and knowledgeable and is the only place to go for any eye related issues. I had dry eye, and before jumping to the prescription treatment, he recommended the OTC drops and then evaluated two weeks later. I needed the plugs and the script, but he is fast and knows his stuff. I would recommend for any procedures.

I loved Dr. Downer. First, my vision in my right eye was almost none. He gave me a cornea transplant and the next day my vision was already improving. My family was so surprised when I started reading captions off the TV screen. He is very professional, very caring, easy to get along with and seems to be very concerned with my well-being. I was referred by my personal dr. and I can understand why. He was just right for me in every way. I am so very happy with my experience.

I think Dr Downer is awesome. He has helped me so much with all my eye problems. He has a great personality and I just sent my daughter to him. I would recommend him highly.

I cannot put into words how highly I recommend Dr. Downer! I have several eye problems and he takes the time to examine my eyes, explains things in detail and answers all of my questions. The staff is also awesome. They explain what they are going to do before they do it. Everyone's very gentle and friendly. I LOVE Dr. Downer!!

Dr. Downer performed my cataract surgery. It was the quickest & easiest procedure I have ever had. Dr. Downer was great & the surgery was perfect. Should I need anything else for my vision, this is the Doctor I would see.

Comprehensive eye exam

Now on my 3rd year seeing Dr. Downer, I could never imagine ever going to another ophthalmologist. Each appointment I've had with Dr. Downer, I've been completely satisfied.

Consulted for chronic dry eyes for which a long-used product was providing less effective relief. Impressed with his gradualistic approach -- testing the simplest first and progressing towards the simplest solution.

Dr. Downer performed operations on my eyes to rid them of cataracts then, due fading eyesight he carried out laser treatment in both eyes over a four day period which resulted in me having 20/20 vision. I highly recommend Dr. Downer both for his enormous skills but also for his manner.
