Courage to Speak the truth
My mother was assigned this Dr. at a local ER because she did not have a PCP there. He practices a one size fits all geriatric medicine, meaning low dose medications, and no pain management. He believes it's normal behavior for elderly to scream, and that they are not truly in pain. He spends little time with you, IF he can get away with it. He is autocratic, does not want you to ask questions. He can be rude and condescending. If you are assigned this physician in the ER, refuse him. You may have several physicians if hospitalized, but beware in medicine, if you are assigned this attending, he will primarily manage your care. Specialist will consult him but he is the decider. He treats based on the belief that geriatric patient's don't require intense medical intervention because they are dying anyway.
