Dr. Dhiren Mehta, MD

No one answers the office phone. With no email, the only option is voicemail and messages are rarely answered in a timely or proper fashion. I called about a chronic GI issue while on a trip to Europe. Dr. Mehta never called me back. His attitude was “Everybody gets tourista overseas.” This was definitely NOT tourista! The day after I returned, I delivered a stool sample to his office, but they never called back with the test results. It was the Suffolk County DOH that informed me I had the bacterial illness “Yersinia” and should ask my doctor about treatment. After several days I finally heard from the other Dr. Mehta. Since I 'apparently' had no more symptoms, she said I didn’t need antibiotics. She didn’t even suggest more comprehensive stool tests (a 'no brainer') and the only follow-up appt was more than 2 weeks away. Shameless! I am now consulting a gastroenterologist in NYC and was able to set up an appt immediately at Weill Cornell’s Infectious Diseases unit.

The Doctor was attentive and patient and kind as well as the office staff

This office is ridiculous. Impossible to get a phone call back about any questions and the front office staff is exceptionally rude. Stay away from this practice!

As an existing patient i had to be seen for blood in stool and they would not squeeze me in for six days.

Phenomenal dr - phenomenal bedside manner. Have been his patient for nearly 15 years dealing with ulcerative colitis for 10 years, culminating ultimately into having my entire colon removed with a re section surgery five years ago at mt sinai hospital. Dr. Mehta literally white gloved my care as he passed me on to excellent surgeons in NYC with whom he continued to follow up re: my recovery. I recommend him to everyone who needs a specialists care. WORTH the long wait in office to see him.

A wonderful doctor. His staff needs further training in explaining the costs. DO NOT GO TO SHIRLEY AS YOU WILL INCUR AN EXPENSIVE SITE FEE depending on your insurance. I was not told this and learned a $$$$ lesson.
