No help
It gives me no joy to write a bad review of Dr. Umashanker, but she has wasted my money and time. I went to her 2 years ago to get a prescrip for weight loss med, and she recommended low-cal diet. I tried to explain that I had 50 years (a lifetime!) of experience on a low-cal diet, but it fell on deaf ears. So I dieted, again. It did not work because my body adjusted as it always does, and bc low-cal diets are not sustainable. A year later, I went back and asked AGAIN for prescrip. She finally agreed to prescribe, pending a review of my latest medical records. I sent them the next day. I called the office to make sure they received them, they had. Months pass, no word, finally I call. Apparently, her staff never informed her that my records arrived. And during those months, she decided to stop prescribing. So two years are gone and I got no help.

Won't help unless you're willing to go Surgical
When I made it clear I had ZERO interest in bariatric surgery, it became very clear that she was not going to work with me. Telling me I could only ever hope to lose a paltry amount of weight, and only then with medications - which she wasn't willing to offer me unless I jumped through hoops to "prove" I deserved them. A program like this should not be fat-shaming someone who is looking for help!

Dr. Umashanker is an excellent doctor. She is very knowledgeable. She also has a very good bed side manner. Dr. Umashanker thank you for helping me lose 26 pounds. She is one of the best doctors I have ever seen. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to lose weight!

Dr Umashanker and her team are life savers they have helped me with my weight loss journey and she has made it a pleasure and a time of excitement to visit a doctor for the first time in my life in stead of dreading the thought of going to a doctors office . she has made my 250 lbs weight loss such an easy and fun experience thank you so much to her and her wonderful team of angels :)

Dr Umashanker now works for Hartford Healthcare. Since last fall, she has provided superb care and weight management of my obesity condition. Through her careful and individualized care tailored to my unique medical complexities she has successfully enabled me to lose 20+ lbs and get my BMI under 30. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone carrying excessive weight who wants to improve their health and extend their lifespan!
