Regrets
After my cervical fusion (several years ago) the right side of my body has nerve damage, I can’t feel temperature and liquids on my skin. He nicked a nerve in my neck, he said it would get better, it NEVER DID!!! He did not care at all.

Get another opinion first
I took my family member (Jane- not real name to protect privacy) to him. Dr. Bullard advised based on the films and back studies that Jane needed a fusion of L4/L5/S1. He touted excellent outcomes with other patients having similar conditions. He promised a minimally invasive surgery to minimize scar tissue. He was very patient and professional.... in the beginning. He advised Jane needed this surgery scheduled as soon as possible to minimize further damage to Jane’s back. We were given hope at the prospect of 90% and above receiving pain relief under his care, and were excited that he had an opening within just a few weeks. Jane returned with increased pain and was advised to continue PT and to give it time. She was unable to walk. We returned for 6 month recheck, both he and his PA very rude and dismissive. Then the repeat Xray showed two broken titanium screws! His first words: “You can’t sue me.” His first concern was not about Jane’s continual pain. RUN for 2nd opinion.

Jane’s Pain – Feb 02, 2022

Dr. Bullard performed a fusion on me several years ago. After the surgery I had chronic pain where I never had it prior and numbness and pain in my instep. When I tried to discuss this with him, he was dismissive and told me give it time. Every follow up, the same answer. Finally, during my 1 year visit, he told me this is how it was going to be and dismissed me as his patient. Now, year later, I have diminished muscle in my left shin, chronic lower back pain, and chronic pain in my instep. These conditions were not present prior to my surgery. I wouldn’t recommend anyone seeing him. The worst part was his attitude following the surgery. He was totally disinterested in anything I had to say.

Very poor experience. Had a rushed anterior fusion that ultimately did not fuse at all. When I went back to Dr. Bullard he said I had kyphosis and there was nothing he could do. A subsequent visit to Duke Orthopaedics quickly revealed the fusion hadn't taken and my cage was collapsing. Dr. Bullard was only interested in doing the quick surgery and moving onto the next. He was rude and dismissive in our follow up appointments. My advice is stay far away from him, and take time for a second opinion.

Dr. Bullard has worked wonders in my life. After having two discs at C4-5; C-5-6 blow out completely, I was referred to a different Neurosurgeon who performed two antiquated procedures that my body did NOT except. After that doctor told me at age 37 this was the best it was going to be...I went in search of a second opinion. I was fortunate to find out about Dr. Bullard & he used newer well proven procedures that saved my life. Unfortunately, because of my degeneration of the disc disease, he has had to perform a total of 3 surgeries. But, his professionalism in explaining the problem, his recommended course of procedure & what his expectations from me after surgery; always set me at ease with moving forward. He is the best in this profession as far as I am concerned & his staff is the best!

I was in dire straits when I met Dr Bullard. I had a barely heard of condition (Post-Laminectomy Kyphosis of the CSpine mixed with Syringomyelia & Chiari syndrome) resulting from a prior surgery that removed the backs of my Cspine vertebrae. After years, the vertebrae were sliding forward - to slice the spinal cord. He didn’t have much to work with, but he showed me his research & I agreed with his approach. His great care & attention to detail, his choice of coworkers, and his strong support are what made his work so successful. Well, I did follow instructions well - I’ll accept that credit. ;) That surgery saved my life and has kept me good for 27 years now - still going strong. I figured it’s about time to show thanks for how a proper diagnosis and well done surgery can really last. I’m very grateful. Thank you for my life... & my daughter’s. I had a baby, too!

When I first met Dr. Bullard and his staff I was very impressed. He fused by back between L3 and S1. I won't go into all the details of how unprofessional I was treated by him when I had to be readmitted to the hospital. I continued to have back pain and got a second opinion. After having a CT scan it was discovered that the screw betwen L5 and S1 was put in incorrectly and hitting a nerve which has made it difficult for me to walk. I am scheduled to surgery again on Oct. 2.
