A few weeks ago I went to see Tomback complaining about a sprained toe. I explained that the problem had started immediately following an injury at the gym. He immediately diagnosed me with gout and sent me home with a prescription for colchicine (gout medicine) and an x-roy order if the pain/swelling persisted through the weekend. I told him I was vegan and he said “vegans get gout” (gout is caused by high protein diets). I told my brother, who is an orthopedist, who immediately had me go for a test to see if I had gout. The results came back completely normal. I'm not sure why Tomback didn't order any tests if he felt I had a medical condition. Also I don't understand how his immediate go-to diagnosis was gout when I told him about the injury at the gym and that I was vegan. Tomback carelessly provided an incorrect diagnosis and prescribed the wrong medication which, had I taken it, would have given me diarrhea without actually treating my condition which was a simple sprain.
