Checked out
During appointments he does the bare minimum: quick exam and when to schedule next appointment. Does not explain condition or treatment plan. Does not review imaging. Did not meet with parents before surgery and immediate post-surgery communication was a phone call in between procedures. He checks the box by asking if you have questions but hard to ask questions after receiving no information.

Waste of time
I waited for hours to be seen for nothing. He spent 5 minutes with me and had no answers or diagnosis. I've had debilitating pain in my feet for years that's getting progressively worse. He told me to just get new shoes, and that my feet only hurt because feet are sensitive. What??? I've had reconstructive surgery and my other foot is still flat as a pancake. It's a little more than sensitive. Maybe if you're not sure about how to help someone, spend more than 5 minutes with them? You'd have to have a desire to help patients for that though.

I'm independent once again after smashing my ankle and tearing several ligaments- thanks Daniel Gus, MD. My injuries were highly complex and completely debilitating, requiring a metal plate and multiple screws to hold all the pieces together. Dr. Gus is a highly skilled surgeon- and I give thanks daily that my friend (... also a physician) recommended him.

I recently had an injury with my ankle and have been seeing Dr. Guss for a couple of times. I would change my doctor if I can, but they don't let you easily change once you have started treatment. The waiting time has always been very long, say at least 20 minutes. Also, he tells you what to do but often not explaining why. Having an injury that needs a long time to recover, it's super important to understand the "why" behind the dos and don'ts. Last but not least, I don't feel his sympathy. The last point may be very personal but I value it a lot

It has been over a year since my Surgery. I fell off a ladder and fractured the Talus in my ankle. My foot turned over 90 degrees. Dr. Guss was the third surgeon That I met with. The first, an ortho surgeon at a community hospital told me he was not qualified due to the complexity of my injury. The second at a major research hospital in Boston refused to do the surgery. I suspect due to me weight, over 270, and the possibility of a bad outcome that he did not want to deal with. Dr. Guss said no problem. No big deal. He does this all the time. He instilled confidence. The surgery went great. The recovery and PT were a challenge as they occurred during Covid but we got through it. Today I have no limitations. It is as if there was no shattering of my Talus. Dr. Guss warns that I may have arthritis as I age but so far so good.

I shattered my ankle hiking, they had to carry me out by ambulance. They couldn't put it back in place in the ER and the ER surgeon didn't feel comfortable fixing it. Dr. Guss came in and made me feel so comfortable, he took me to the OR that night and I feel so lucky. Ends up my neighbor had her surgery by him as well. His entire team is wonderful!

Dr. Guss is inadequate at doing his job. He waltzed into the room, sat down at the computer with his back to me 99% of the time and was an egotistical jerk when I asked a question. He did not explain a diagnosis, treatment or plan. He was rude then left the room. He must get pissed off easy because he seemed like he was pissed off when he came in. What a waste of time because of this lack of attention to my issue at the time of my visit it appears I have more complications. He was also rude to the assistant who was trying to be helpful giving her no direction.

I consulted with Dr. Guss for a second opinion on whether to operate on a ruptured Achilles tendon. I found Dr. Guss online researching Boston area Achilles specialists. While the initial surgeon I met with spent very little time with me and immediately suggested a traditional open surgery, Dr. Guss was very clear that I was a strong candidate for a non-operative approach to healing the injury. We discussed the pros and cons and reviewed images together while he explained my various options. I ultimately I decided to go forward with a minimally invasive operation that Dr. Guss offered. My physical therapist said it was the neatest surgical scar from an Achilles surgery he'd seen in 19 years. I would recommend Dr. Guss to anyone looking for an expert surgeon who takes the time to explain and answer questions.

Long wait sometimes, but it’s because the medical staff make sure you have the time you need to understand and make decisions. Many patients have very difficult decisions to make. Allow for it. Only accept the first or second appointment if you can’t wait. There is a notice board behind the receptionists telling you any unusual wait time.

This physician is bizarre and the staff at Newton Wellesley is just atrocious. Lots of people in wheelchairs waiting forever and the whole process of being a patient at this location was so frustrating I walked out of that place terrified to have a surgery with them. Not going back to MGH and looking for a surgeon elsewhere. The wait time is inappropriate to the time spent with me as a patient, and just is not right.

Great experience! Fit me in to do an open reduction/internal fixation on my ankle. He was thorough in his explanation of everything they would do and what to expect. Even called over the weekend to check on me. I feel very fortunate to be his patient especially because of the complexity of my fracture.

I had my foot rebuilt by Dr. Guss with a bunch of screws and bone after my arch collapsed and I couldn't walk anymore. I felt like I could really trust him and never felt rushed. The recovery was tough but he called to check in on me the day after surgery. I'm finally walking again. I can't thank him enough.

I've had four surgeries due to repeated injuries and I had an emergency surgery at MGH. I did not select Dr. Guss but only ended up with him. He is extremely unprofessional and made strange comments. I ended up with a hospital acquired staph infection and post surgery, I had issues. He roughly handled my infected foot without gloves and I ended up with metallosis after the metal implants. He did not give me the correct diagnosis. Bad staff, super unfriendly and long waits with zero updates.

Dr Guss has treated me for 3 different foot/ankle injuries over several years. One time he saved me from surgery-a podiatrist said I had a Jones fracture that needed a screw, Dr Guss said it was a pseudo jones fracture & didn't need surgery & he was right! Ankle injury-he fixed my situation after another ortho hadn't helped me. From what I can tell he is as knowledgable & skilled as they get. Wish they gave more info on self care & how to help yourself, but still you couldn't be in better hands

Talented surgeon - Dr. Guss repaired my ruptured Achilles tendon and everything went smoothly. He answered all of my questions, giving me all the information I needed to decide the course of action that suited me best. He had a great sense of humor that put me at ease and also called me the day after surgery to check how I was doing. I'm very appreciative of the care that Dr. Guss provided me.
