Dr. Cortana Saved my Life
Dr Cottam literally saved my life. He found huge amounts of scar tissue in my body. He did a fantastic job and removing them. The scar tissue had attached to some of my organs and my abdomen wall.Dr. Cotton Was extremely personable. He answered every question that I had. I would recommend without hesitation this doctor.

Best Experience, Ever
Telehealth
My first visit with Dr. Cottam was a televisit. I spoke with his excellent staff more than I did with Dr. Cottam. He has his practice down to a great business model that turns out great results. My duodenal switch gave me very little to no pain. I did see Dr. Cottam and my anesthesiologist in person during my prep for surgery and told him what a great staff he had. If a person is looking for a 'touchy feely' type of surgeon, Dr. Cottam is not that way. I received all the touchy feely I needed from his staff, which were outstanding. I talked to them so much I felt like I knew them. All in all, Dr. Cottam is worth every bit of 5 stars.

Very Professional and Knowledgeable
I have had several experiences with Dr. Cottom. He really listens to what you have to say. He’s very down to earth and the most knowledgeable Doctor I have meant when it comes to gastric bypass. He knows his stuff. Don’t be afraid to talk to him, doctors are just people doing the job they signed up to do. If you want to loose weight you want Dr. Cottom. He saved my life when no one else would. Thank you to his staff and to him for the awesome job they all do!

My experience with Dr. Cottam was more disappointing than I can briefly articulate. He was the on call surgeon when I was admitted to the hospital with suspected appendicitis. In the 14 hours I spent in the ER/hospital, he couldn't be bothered to actually come and examine me - therefore he never seemed to fully understand the location or severity of my pain. He told me that the radiologist said my appendix was "fine" after I had previously been told that it "wasn't visualized" on the scan. These are two very different things. Ultimately, I left the hospital in slightly less pain than I had arrived due only to IV pain medication I received after what felt like a grueling, miserable experience. No answers. The most he did was call me twice-with his family in the background to the extent that I could clearly hear everything they were saying (Shh Dad's on the phone). He didn't even have the care, respect, or professionalism to step away to be able to focus and make the calls. Beware.

Unprofessional, ineffective, and lazy – Nov 23, 2021

Post-surgery process: I had a consultation with Dr Cottam and at that time I felt good about it. Same day, I had appointments with dietary and fitness experts. Felt good about that. The process took less than a month and during that time I asked which procedure I was getting specifically. Duodenal Switch. Do NOT be mistaken thinking this is the Traditional D.S. I had to ask Dr Cottam specifically and it is the SADI. felt ok with that too. Day of surgery: walked into the back of a small building. No desk to greet, just sit in a small waiting room til called back. One nurse was munching on chips. The nurse "checking me in" never even took my I.D. despite offering it. Didn't verify who I am...just that I answered to my name and that's what I signed. Dr Cottam spent about 3 mins with me, didn't quite know which surgery I was getting or that I'm diabetic. I had to tell him. Never saw him after surgery. Nurses take naps at night in their little room. There's more but no more room to write.

Dr. Cottam is extremely rude and unprofessional. I highly recommend you look into another surgeon to care for you.

I saw Dr Cottam for a consultation. His behavior was disrespectful and rude. He spent maybe 15 minutes in the room with me, but only 5 minutes actually discussing my medical options. The majority of the time he spent on his cell phone. Twice I was told from the office staff that the visit would be $100. I was later billed $200. I was lied to twice and the office said they do not legally have to disclose the cost up front. This Dr is unethical and only cares about the $$.

Nice enough guy. You see him once for a short visit, in the hospital for surgery, and then not again. If you have a problem, he doesn't seem to come up with specific plan of care. You're left wondering what happens next.
