Dr. Dan Welch Jr, MD

I saw Dr. Welch recently after both a car accident and a diagnosis of a genetic joint disorder that causes chronic pain. I was also pregnant with my second baby. I remember him telling me that I wouldn’t have a lot of control over how much pain I was in in my life, but I could have a lot of control over how much I suffered from it. I have lived by that, and it has saved me a lot of suffering. He taught me how to safely manage pain medication. He warned me against chasing more than about 25% pain relief, to protect me from addiction. To this day 20 years later, I haven’t had to increase dosages of pain meds (other than for surgeries, obviously) I think Dr. Welch is a brilliant physician that helped me so much! He enabled me to enjoy my children as they grew, and helped them to have a mom who could cope- despite the regular injuries and pain. I hope he reads this. I truly can’t thank him enough..

I would not trust anyone with associated with Swedish - that whole place will probably be shut down in the next year or two.

I wish I had read these reviews before I went to see him. Even though he was polite, he told me there is nothing could be done with my pain I would just have to learn to live with it. He said surgery was rarely successful. I know this not to be true. I’m in acute pain, can barely walk at times. To be told this by Dr. Welch was so disheartening I went home and cried. I wish I could ask for my $50 dollar co-pay back.

Do not recommend.

Dr Welch was possibly the most dismissive physician I've ever seen. He certainly does not have a multidisciplinary approach. I came to see him as a specialist after over 15 years of chronic pain. Exact quotes: "Chronic pain is chronic; there's nothing you can do about it." "nothing that happens in your shoulder has any effect on your neck." "You're just a kid; enjoy your youth." "Your pain isn't that bad."

If you want to feel dismissed and be treated with condescension, then see Dr. Welch. All he did was repeat to me that I have a problem that can't be cured (disc budge) and said to exercise which I already do. I didn't expect a cure. I just wanted to find some more pain relief. Keep doing what you're doing--when you're in pain--is not helpful advice. Complete waste of time and super frustrating!

Dr welch is terrible, didn't care about my pain, I'm sceduled for neck surgery with a neurologist in Jan 2017, Dr Welch said it's probably not going to help you, and i wanted a cortizone injection on my back and he said it wouldn't help. Also was looking for a new pain management Dr and dr welch told me narcotics don't work and you can get dependent etc, etc. He talks way to fast and makes you feel like there's nothing wrong with you and nothing will help. I left there with NO hope,
