Dr. Crystal Houlton, MD

The most dismissive doctor I have ever seen before. I was in so much pain and she made my concerns feel invalid. At one point of the appointment she legitimately rolled her eyes at what I was saying when I was explaining my pain. She made snarky comments the whole time and then basically dismissed my pain as not being real. I've never been treated like a doctor like this in my life. So so disappointing.

Do not recommend. Look at the other reviews and you’ll find very consistent experiences. Dr. Houlton is beyond unprofessional. Go elsewhere for better results, advise and respect.

I have never felt compelled to write a review before, but my experience was so shockingly disappointing that I had to speak up. Like many others, I was taken aback by Crystal’s behavior—rude, condescending, and blatantly uninterested in doing her job. What makes it even more disheartening is seeing a woman treat another woman seeking guidance and support with such disregard.From the moment I walked in, my concerns were dismissed. She rolled her eyes, ignored my questions, and provided no real assistance. In the brief 10 minutes I was there, the only 'advice' I received was that 'texting and driving is the leading cause of death'—completely irrelevant to why I was seeking help. Before I could get the answers I needed, I was rushed out, my concerns brushed aside as if they didn’t matter. Even when I made one last attempt to clarify my issue, she responded with more condescension before walking out on me entirely.Don't waste your time.

I had the unfortunate experience of seeing Crystal Houlton during my pregnancy, and I feel compelled to share how disappointed I am with her professionalism. I’ve seen several medical providers throughout my pregnancy, all of whom have been fantastic, attentive, and thorough. Unfortunately, that was not the case with Crystal Houlton.She was condescending, rude, and dismissive throughout my visit. Her approach was not only unprofessional but downright disrespectful. It's shocking to me that someone in her position would treat a patient this way. I left the appointment feeling worse than when I arrived, and frankly, I wouldn’t trust her with my care going forward. There are so many wonderful other professionals out there, and I would highly recommend seeking someone else. I truly hope Crystal Houlton reconsiders her approach to patient care because no one should have to endure such an unpleasant experience when seeking medical advise.

She was very condescending and rude, madeMe feel like my being there was unnecessary and an inconvenience to her. Kept commenting that she didn't know why I was there or how she could help me. I came to her with a problem and she was dismissive and insensitive, complete waste of time, had to see another provider. She also mocked me to her staff, she thought I didn't notice. Incredibly unprofessional.

This doctor assumed because I cry a lot during pregnancy that I don’t want my baby. Never once said that. Then tried to refer me to behavioral health.

It was an incredibly bad experience. The front desk staff was okay, and the nurse was super sweet. However, Dr. Houlton was demeaning and rude, lacking compassion and empathy.I have a lump on my breast, and she insensitively remarked, 'If we just went having surgery all the time on every lump women have, our boobs would look like Swiss cheese.'Although I wasn’t on my period, it was about to start, and she acted inconvenienced by the presence of blood, saying, 'There’s just so much blood,' and left me exposed with the speculum in place to get more supplies.When I mentioned my hemorrhoids, she reacted with, 'Oh my god,' as if my condition was a burden to her.She was highly rude, showing no compassion or care in such a vulnerable situation.

Dr. Houlton is absolutely incredible! She genuinely cares about you and your baby, and she's always honest and upfront. She's so professional and proactive in her care. After a terrible experience with another OB, she made my rainbow baby pregnancy feel at ease. She connected me with the best doctors in downtown Charleston since I've been high risk. I truly believe she's a godsend, and MUSC is lucky to have her on their team!

I saw Dr Houlton as a surgery consult for my fibroids and she performed my hysterectomy. I was really happy with my overall care from being patient with me and my million questions, involving my partner through telehealth appts, to excellent bedside manner during surgery, and aftercare. She spends a lot of time with me in my appts explaining everything in good detail and is backed by latest research. I never felt rushed. I plan to keep her as my regular OB/GYN. Her staff is amazing as well. I also feel like they respect my time and affirming of my identity. I also liked that the clinic as a whole always had a Dr on call available to talk to me or see me, which was important after surgery. Especially considering the challenges of covid, I felt well cared for overall.

I saw Dr. Houlton for my prenatal care. I found her extremely thoughtful with great bedside manner and follows up on the latest research. I felt extremely well cared for during my pregnancy and I would recommend her to any of my friends or family.

Dr Houlton was only nice only after I asked to talk to the office manager. I went in for a Pap that was recommended by my primary...Dr Houlton comes in and says that she doesn’t need to see me. If I wanted to know the reason why I would be charged a whole visit without the pap to get the explanation. She was not caring or understanding until later. I heard her 2 min of whys and was charged 313 dollars. Not about the money but they really treat you not like a person here.

I had a lot of questions that were never discussed during my pregnancy due to Dr Houlton lack of time and patience. She was always talking fast, mentioning that she was in a hurry. During all visits I needed to wait 15-50 min before seeing her, however there was a day that I was 10 min late and she could not see me as she was leaving for lunch. I needed to stay at the office for hours to check if she could see me at some point (after 4 hrs). But the most horrible was her scheduling an induction for a Monday 9pm at the hospital, and after I was admitted and had an IV access connected on my arms, the Dr on call said that the induction was not necessary as I was making progress naturally, so I was sent back home. Next day another OBGYN agreed with the hospital Dr. Dr Houlton denied to schedule the induction for a day she was on call, but I ended up having my baby on a day she was available. She ignored my option of not having stitches, and sometimes it is still sore, 2 yrs after.
