Was looking for a new psychiatrist, as my old one wasn’t able to really help identify what my problems were, and the medications we had tried weren’t really working. She was cold, dismissive, and at one point literally rolled her eyes at me. I told her about symptoms I have had that felt like they could be ADHD-related, and she totally dismissed it as “ADHD not being my primary diagnosis”—despite her not doing any formal diagnosis besides a basic depression and anxiety questionnaire, and I already knew I had these issues. She pretty much blamed all my issues on having an “irregular sleep pattern,” “drinking too much caffeine,” and that I needed to do more “behavioral activation” work, (which is a fancy word for “just get up and do things”). I drink caffeine and have an irregular sleep schedule (sleeping too much) because I am exhausted from my issues. She put no effort into actually helping me and had a horrible attitude.

She ignored the issue that brought me to seek therapy in the first place and clearly didn’t know what she was doing. Also, cold and dismissive demeanor. My experience with her made me avoid seeking therapy again for years.

Dr Choi is a godsend. After decades of visits with various psychiatrists knowing something was definitely wrong with my mental health, she diagnosed my Bipolar I disease within the first fifteen minutes of our initial appointment. Her medical management program has remarkably improved my well-being and her referral for Cognitive Behavior Therapy has helped me better cope. She's a woman of impeccable integrity, grace and presence. I'd highly recommend her.
