I had my hip replaced one year ago by Van. Based on my experience if you are considering him for hip surgery I would not hesitate. Very personable and skilled all the way through the process. 4 weeks after surgery I did four about 5-mile hikes (2 thousand ft elevation gain each) while visiting my son in Boulder, and then on week 7 I did a 12-mile, 4-thousand ft elevation gain hike in the North Cascades, and I've not looked back. No pain. I have given up running and yoga, doing gravel biking and Pilates instead, but hiking, backpacking, climbing, whole body fitness classes and all other activities are no problem. My pain is gone! In the weeks before the hip surgery, I could only work out in a pool and couldn't even do a flutter kick with my rt leg. It's amazing! My advice is to start the exercises (See Bob and Brad PT on YouTube) for hip surgery asap and do them before and after and do what you can to stay in shape, and your recovery will likely be quick too! Good luck.

Dr Van Hofwegen saw me quickly. He was informative and friendly. He recognized my problem, examined me and gave instructions for followup.

This was a follow up visit for shoulder replacement surgery. I appreciate how much better my shoulder feels after the surgery, and even though range of motion is limited, it is still a significant improvement. His no-nonsense approach is great and he does not assume anything about how you are feeling at that moment. He is a very skilled surgeon and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering this kind of surgical procedure.
