Substandard care
Unfortunately, Dr Olenec provided substandard service by providing a very delayed test report that appears incomplete and erroneous. As a cancer survivor, my GI care is essential. I had a capsule endoscopy. I was told multiple times that test results would be available in approximately 2 weeks. I called several times over three weeks asking for the office manager who did not return my calls. When I called 25 days after the procedure and threatened to file a medical complaint, Jennifer, the office manager, called me back. She made excuses and was rude. I received a report a couple days later. The report, signed by the doctor, stated the endoscopy was normal, and included none of the results I’ve seen in my other capsule endoscopies. At least one field contained erroneous data, and some fields were empty. No notes or indications of the chronic conditions noted by other GI tests over the past decade.

Forever Greatful
The day we saw Dr.Olenec was the worst and best day of my life. He came into the recovery room, put his hand on my shoulder and gently told us my husband has a very rare and aggressive cancer. He wasn’t waiting for biopsies because He knew what it was and went on to say he was making an appt with an oncologist for us before we left. He was concerned we would get lost in the system. He apologized that he couldn’t give us better news and gently sqeeezed my shoulder as he walked off. There I sat with tears flowing and a husband in and out of consciousness as one by one staff handed me tissues and rubbed my back and without saying a word gave me the strength to get through the day. Hubby is about to get his 4th round of chemo then his stomach removed in October. No matter the outcome, I will always remember the gentle squeeze of Dr. Olenec that day, showing me he cared and the overwhelming genuine love and compassion we felt from the entire staff of Anne Arundel Gastroenterology.

Rushed
After seeing Dr. Olenec for 10 years, he is no longer the same. He and his practice rush through visits, and don’t take the time to really communicate with the patient and address their concerns. I cannot recommend him.

I highly recommend Dr. Olenec
I give them five stars and my gratitude. My other doctor within this practice retired and for my past couple colonoscopy appointments, I've seen Dr. Olenec. I found him to be extremely nice and informative. This is a life saving procedure and I'm extremely grateful to Dr. Olenec and his staff for their professionalism, kindness, sense of humor and knowledge. They have to deal with a variety of personalities and people who think they are the only patients on the planet. I have witnessed a few of them. One came in the door complaining about having to wear a mask. Perhaps if they remembered their manners, their experience would be more positive.

Dr. Olenec has zero bedside manner. He is consummately disinterested in the patient's concerns. His demeanor and attitude suggests that he is annoyed at having to talk to the patient. Given the severity of my condition, I was stunned by his behavior. As the Medical Director--let alone even a participating doctor--- in this practice, his actions reflect poorly on the practice, and heavily diminish its reputation. This is unfortunate as the clinical and clerical staff are otherwise amazing. If you choose this practice, go with anyone other than Dr. Olenec.

I have seen Dr. Olenec many times to help manage my GERD and colonoscopy checks. I have found him to be friendly and professional. He provided excellent care and helped me through my recovery when I ended up getting Nissen Fundoplication surgery. I enthusiastically recommend him.

I saw Dr. Olenec for the first time and will seek another provider for future procedures. He has perhaps the worst bedside manner.....he seems aloof and appears disinterested in patient interaction. He may be good at his specialty, I do not know as it involves quasi surgical skills. But past GI doctor, who retired, set a higher standard

Dr. Olenec was the first doctor I found to assist me when I was very sick. He listened to my concerns and was very patient with me. I live on the Eastern Shore and I had to see many doctors but he was absolutely one of the best. I read the negative comments and I just wish more people who are positive, happy and appreciate his kindness would speak out because he is by far one of the best!

I read the other reviews and I'm kind of surprised at the negative ones. Dr. Olenec is extremely nice and listened to what I had to say. He wasn't the original doctor to do my colonoscopy but was satisfied with the job and accepted the results which meant I didn't need to do another one. He allowed me to stay on the drug that has worked for me for years and even mentioned there were new methods of treatment. We tried one (I had input in the decision), it didn't work and we went back to the old medicine. I didn't feel he was condescending like others mentioned in their reviews. I think he has a nice conversational demeanor. Meaning he doesn't talk at you. He talks with you. That might seem aloof to some or even condescending but I didn't see it that way. I'm picky when it comes to Doctors. I like Doctors who know their stuff and tell it to you straight. He does that. I'm overweight. He says I'm overweight. Can't get offended if it's true like the other reviewer.

I was not impressed. Went back once to see if maybe the other visit was unusual. But, well.......not comfortable leaving a negative review. However, I really felt like m y care was not on his mind . My condition didn't improve and another opinion said they think he read the wrong information to me. My problem should have been healed long ago but am still struggling with it and will see someone else. Just seems like he doesn't see me or understand my problem.

Dr.Olenec was the worst Dr I have ever seen. He was condisending and insulting. Flat out told me I was fat and told me I should’ve stayed on mood altering medication that I no longer needed. I had gone to that practice for over 20 years and now I will never go back.

I agree with the other negative reviews. Dr. Olenec was dismissive and peremptory when my husband had concerns about the medication he was prescribed and when he asked to discuss alternatives. So, we had the next procedure done by a different doctor in the same office. We're now receiving a letter from Dr. Olenec with the same brusque, presumptive tone.

Dr Olenec seems fine if you are the type that accepts everything a doctor says without doing your own research. Personally, I found him to be confrontational, dismissive, unaware of new research on dietary implications in bowel disease, and unwilling to research it even after three appt's. He was unwilling to work with me on finding an acceptable treatment after I declined the use of certain dangerous immunomodulator medications. He refused even to renew long term maintenance prescriptions.

During my initial consultation with, Dr. Olenec, he ordered a colonoscopy and a CT scan. After the colonoscopy, he took time to review the pics and results with me and answered all my questions. The extra precaution of ordering the CT scan proved to be the right call because it revealed a condition that requires further review and care from another specialist.
