Terrible doctor, go elsewhere
1st mistake - didn't do x-rays2nd mistake - didn't listen to my explanation of pain nor constantly dropping things & knocking things over because my hands dont do what my brain tells them to, and how my hands curl & fold for months at a time. Didnt agree that 1 wrist was bigger or that I had a deformed finger.3rd mistake - exam consisted of me holding out my hands & turning them over. Dr Dy then said there was nothing wrong with my hands & there was no reason to see him. 6 mons later saw a rheumatoligist whose NP immediately saw problems with my hands & pointed out that 1 of my wrists was swollen & looked at my deformed finger. Xrays showed severe bone degeneration & arthritis in 1 wrist & hand & moderate bone degeneration & arthritis in other wrist & hand. Next having MRI on hands. But, theres nothing wrong with my hands. After seeing other complaints about his work as a surgeon, I feel lucky he turned me away.

Terrible doctor beware
Terrible doctor, beware about his practice. I went on February 5, 2024 to see him for arthritis of both thumbs. He gave me steroid injection for both thumbs and touch and injured the nerve. Being in excruciating pain swollen and fired thumb asked for help after the procedure. No help offers by the doctor but instead been told “ I have nothing to offer you”. I have questions him and been dismissed, treated with no dignity. This doctor has no empathy for the human being. Please don’t waste your time with this doctor, find someone else that cares for the patient, respect, and treat patients with dignity and have empathy for the human beings. Worse doctor ever seen in my entire life.

Beware
Do not let the fact that this doctor is associated with a great hospital fool you. He rushes through his appointments and barely explains anything, much less is their time for questions. I had a broken wrist which was severely broken. My first visit he asked me if I wanted to have surgery or not. I was floored I was there to find out from him what I should do. He put a cast on it and had me wait for months until he took the cast off and said it's healing and not to worry about surgery. My wrist is so completely crooked that my fingers are going numb unless I wear a brace. I switched doctors after my second visit of waiting forever to see him only to find out I wasn't going to see him anyway. Please don't waste your time with this doctor find another specialist. There are good orthopedic doctors out there.

Ruined my life
Dr. Dy performed two surgeries on my nerves in my leg, one year apart. The second surgery was supposed to help the nerve pain caused by the first surgery. Unfortunately he cut the nerve in the second surgery which not only didn't help, it made my pain worse! On follow up visits, he didn't know what to do with me and ultimately pawned me off on pain management. Two years later I still live in daily chronic pain and am forced to live on opioids which barely take the edge off. This man has completely ruined my life and had no regrets and was not apologetic at all. Again, I waited two years to write this review thinking things might get better but they haven't, I have no quality of life because of this horrible doctor. I felt I needed to let the general public know to be wary of him.

He was nice, but I was disappointed when he completely dismissed the problem I came in for, nonchalantly stating its “not worth looking into further.” I value a doctor who is a bit proactive, not letting a problem get completely out of hand before investigating it. Considering this pain affects my work and daily life, I was just shocked to hear he didn’t care to look into it. Our total encounter time was maybe a bit over 5 minutes. I will be visiting another hand ortho.

Amazing doctor
My daughter at 16 had fell and broke her hip. She was having horrible pain after hearing. Doctors at childrens mercy in Kansas City couldn’t figure anything out with her. They referred us to Dr Dy. He was amazing with her care and her surgery.

Dr. Dy misdiagnosed my condition. He said I didn’t have tarsal tunnel and sent me back to the orthopedist. Subsequent testing by other doctors has identified Tarsal tunnel on both feet. Because of Dr. dy i suffered two years more than needed.. He’s a terrible communicator cannot explain what he’s trying to diagnose and or what the procedure is for and he doesn’t like you asking him any questions he’s a terrible communicator cannot explain what he’s trying to diagnose and or what the procedure is for and he doesn’t like you asking him any questions

I saw Dr. Dy for the first time in December 2019, 6 months after a failed CMC arthroplasty at the advice of my OT. He spent a great deal of time with me at the first appointment, explaining what he thought had gone wrong with my first surgery. He tried several options (injections, nerve blocks) before he explained my options (surgery or live with it). I choose to have revision surgery in February 2020. I was very nervous (given my previous failed surgery), but he was very upfront with me. He never promised that he could fix the problem, but he felt that he had a very good chance of being able to help me. I was never pressured, and all my questions were answered. I am happy to say I am 6 months out from that revision surgery, and I am so glad I chose to have Dr. Dy fix my hand. Given the damage to my hand, I am very blessed to have found Dr. Dy and to have the outcome I did. His staff is great too; they have dealt with insurance problems and have never been too busy to help.

Dr. Dy explained my injury very well prior to surgery. I was extremely pleased with the outcome. My injury was complicated, however, he was able to repair my lower arm (which had had three previous surgeries with assorted hardware). Follow up care has been prompt and informative. His support staff has been professional and kind. By all means, give Dr. Dy the opportunity to help you (or someone you love) if an orthopedic intervention is needed on the lower arm / wrist / hand. You will not be disappointed.

Excellent physician and surgeon, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. This was my first time breaking anything, so I had no idea what to expect in terms of care and recovery but from start to finish, Dr. Dy and the staff were just fantastic. Dr. Dy explained what was happening every step of the way, which I really appreciated. I walked into this clinic on a Monday, had my surgery the next day ... I still can't believe how smoothly it all went and how quickly I was able to recover as a result. I feel very fortunate that I was able to receive this kind of top-level care without having to drive to one of the larger hospitals in the city. Great experience, thank you again.

Dr Dy is my favorite surgeon of all time. He explains everything, gives you the opportunity to ask questions and will tell you as much or as little as you want to know about your surgery. He has performed 2 out-patient surgery 's on me and called the next am after both to make sure everything was ok. He also makes sure you have his phone number so if your OT or PT has any questions about your treatment they can contact him for instructions, and stated he does not mind talking to them.
