Dr. Christopher Destephano, MD

I have fibroids and cysts, the fibroids have been getting bigger, the doctor not only refused to remove the fibroids but bedside manner was the worst I have ever experienced. He also insulted all medical professionals in the industry. Unprofessional, arrogant, and no help. Just watching somebody struggle!

I was recently treated for multiple fibroids by Dr.DeStephano. My experience with him and the team at Mayo Jacksonville was exemplary. From the consultation appointments, to my hospital stay to post-surgery follow-up, I always felt that he patiently listened to my concerns and provided appropriate solutions. Based on my full and swift recovery, I feel that Dr. DeStephano is a very skilled surgeon. He has a gentle demeanor which translated into bedside manners that were comforting but not overbearing. After several negative experiences with Dr. Destephano, I would recommend seeking care with a more knowledgeable doctor in the area of endometriosis. Unfortunately, his bedside manner was subpar and recommendations did not match recent research in this area of expertise. While he did diagnose and prescribe (Pelvic PT, MRI, & Trigger Pt. Inj's.), the main pain generator would have never been addressed without a second opinion being sought out. The MRI had to be sub-specialty over-read where numerous areas of endometriosis were found that were missed on the initial MRI. Wide excision surgery was quickly scheduled with another surgeon with expertise in the field, who also ran more tests prior to the procedure (including a deep pelvic ultrasound). Many areas of deep infiltrating endometriosis would have been left untreated if a second opinion was not obtained through another Mayo doctor at a different location. Not all Mayo doctors have the same expertise and patients must advocate

Very understanding and listens. Not a high pressured physician. I have and still are in consultation with Dr. DeStephano regarding fibroids. He gives sound guidance. Would highly recommend him.

Intelligent. Listens to your concerns and accommodates your desires when formulating a treatment plan.
