Wouldn't take responsibility for failed operation
Went to Dr. Bates for CMC Thumb Arthroplasty surgery, in August of 2021. The cast put on over the surgery was very sloppy, and in one spot was causing a lot of pain as it was digging into my skin. He seemed surprised but offered no solace. After surgery, he told me "the bone" (not sure which-he never told me) had slipped 15%, which he said was normal. Later, he told me "the bone" had slipped 60%. That was in response to all of the pain I was feeling from the surgery. So, I asked what could we do about that , and he didn't seem to have an answer. When I pressed him, about a do-over or something to put the bone back in place, he only said one thing that has really bothered me to this day: "YOU ARE JUST AN UNLUCKY PATIENT!" He said it several times, so I would guess he washed his hands of me by repeating that phrase. Very lame!

I had a bilateral carpal tunnel release in-office procedure done by Dr. Bates on 12/29 and he was fantastic. Each wrist took only about 10 minutes and he was so reassuring the entire time, letting me know what to expect with each step of the procedure. He asked me every few minutes if I could feel anything at all and would stop if I had concerns. The pricing is fantastic too. As a poor person without insurance I was amazed this didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. My first initial visit with them they offered to squeeze me in the very next week for the procedure! Very good communication with Mary, too. I believe she is his assistant, she is awesome as well. Thank you for helping me so quickly and thoroughly Dr. Bates!
