RALP Surgery with Best-Case Outcome
Diagnosed with prostate cancer at 55 yrs old and high-risk genomic markers, RALP was an easy decision. Dr. Barbieri treated me from the first high PSA through MRI, Biopsy, RALP and recovery. While every step was difficult as a patient to accept the diagnosis, educate myself on the implications and decisions and finally working through the surgery and recovery. Dr. Barbieri and his team helped at every step. What has been a 1-year process has led me to my 8 month post surgery follow up with spectacular success on every front. While every patient has their own conditions which impact outcome, Dr. Barbieri brings a professional kindness and patience to help each overcome their own conditions. Dr. Barbieri was recommended to me and I would like to forward the blessing and recommend him to others.

For Urology surgery, should be your first call
The best. I had prostate cancer and had disappointing experiences at two well-known NYC hospitals. Four months after I was diagnosed I still hadn't been treated. I found Dr. Barbieri here on Healthgrades and I couldn't have been happier with the care I received from his young and talented team, particularly Dr. Himanshu Nagar who actually handled my case. NY Presbyterian is on the cutting edge (so to speak) of prostate cancer treatment. My case was handled quickly and efficiently and employed modern Stereotactic Radiosurgery which I'd been told by the other two hospitals that I wasn't a candidate for. I couldn't be happier with the outcome.

Dr. Barbieri is a terrific Urogolist
I was very lucky to have been referred to Dr. Barbieri by y another Urologist. In my case my PSA levels were climbing and he ordered an MRI and performed a fusion biopsy in 2018 which confirmed a slow growing cancer. A subsequent biopsy in 2022 showed that it had spread and therefore I decided based on his recommendation to remove the prostate. I was very fortunate that he was willing to do the surgery based on my age 76. The first 2 months after surgery were challenging but since the followup PSA test = 0.02 confirmed that the cancer did not spread outside the prostate, the healing process is going well. I have full bladder control but need to recover my strength. The effects of Sarcopenia in Seniors is rapid but you must wait at least 2 months after surgery to give the body a chance to heal. Dr. Barbieri is very lucky to have a terrific support team. They are smart, hard working and caring.

Having had a nerve sparing radical prostatectomy by Dr. Barbieri I can say he is the BEST. My lifestyle before and after surgery has remained the same. Throughout the entire process of initial testing, biopsy and surgery I found Dr. Barbieri to possess exceptional skills and knowledge communicated clearly and compassionately. Again, he is the best and I am thankful to him and his entire staff.

Dr. Barbieri and his team are THE BEST. In addition to being a gifted and confident surgeon, he is a great communicator who does an outstanding job of simply explaining diagnosis, treatment options, procedures and recovery. He has built an equally terrific group of caring professionals who do everything from scheduling appointments and tests to providing medical care. I could not feel better about my experience with Dr. Barbieri and his team.

I have been a patient of Dr. Barbieri and his team for more than two years of watching and waiting and finally surgery. They have been fantastic throughout. Words that come to mind include: informed, compassionate, realistic, available, service oriented and skilled. I sought second, even third opinions and decided to stay with this team. My conclusion was that he hits the sweet spot being young enough to be on top of everything current in the field and experienced enough to make me confident being in his hands. My surgery and recovery materially exceed expectations and I recommend Dr. Barbieri and his entire professional team without hesitation.

Dr B performed a robotic assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy 12 weeks days ago on me. First you need to understand that I am a laparoscopic surgeon myself. Bedside manner: excellent, has a calm confidence and immediately puts you at ease. Team: has put together a solid group that translates into an extension of himself, a calm confident OR environment. Surgical skill: Although I have never seen him in action, based upon the finished product (i.e. me postop), he clearly has his act together. His nerve sparing technique is clearly superior. My postop course to date has been exceptional, and comparing myself to the average patient (based on an extensive review prior to choosing my surgeon) I am clearly doing far, far better than the average patient. I believe (and again remember I am a surgeon) it is related to: 1) my age, younger than the average prostate cancer patient 2) my health, limited co-morbidity and 3) a clearly superior surgeon.

After green laser prostate resection done by one of Dr. Barbieri's colleagues, an aggressive tumor was detected in the prostate. Dr. Barbieri then performed a nerve-sparing prostate removal, which was completely successful, and subsequent tests keep showing absence of tumor cells anywhere in my body. Dr. Barbieri explained all procedures clearly and in detail.

Dr. Barbieri walked me through my treatment process patiently and clearly, explaining the options, helping me reason through the choices and encouraging me to seek a second opinion for my own peace of mind, which I did. He and his staff went out of there way to make my surgery and recovery as stress-free as possible, setting up a computer link-up for post-operative check-ins and a home nurse for post-operative care rather than asking me to commute from New Jersey in the immediate aftermath.

I found Dr. Barbieri through my own research after being diagnosed with relatively low-grade prostate cancer. I have been extremely happy with him and his team. They are helpful, friendly, on time, and responsive to emails and calls when necessary. He gave me good guidance on my treatment options and described possible side-effects accurately. The best part was I recovered quickly from the prostatectomy he performed, as he predicted, and the side effects were manageable and as described.

Trust is not a word that I normally use when discussing doctors. However, I couldn't have a conversation about Dr. Barbieri without mentioning it. He is the consummate professional beyond his superior technical skills. He's a fantastic listener and a straight shooter. He has a quiet confidence, and an amazing talent for putting a patient at ease. He should also be given credit for assembling a fantastic team, and establishing a culture that makes every single visit an amazing patient experience
