Terrible bedside manner
I came in with an upper respiratory infection which had been raging for over a week with no improvement. My PCP was unavailable so I took the appt with Dr. Northrop. She asked no questions about how I was feeling or what my concerns were. She seemed to infer I had come for antibiotics and rather than listen, make suggestions and reassure me, without any reason, she took a very patronizing tone, lecturing me that I did not need antibiotics, and that it had only been seven days and that I needed to wait another week before expecting to feel better. She left me feeling degraded, and demoralized on top of already bring horribly sick.

Neglected to authorize critical med refill
Annual checkup seemed cursory compared to my previous doctors. When four months later I called the pharmacy to refill an important medication, she had not called in refill authorization though she said she would. Caused much stress to get authorization by others.

Excellent physician
Dr. Northrup has been my primary care physician since I arrived in Shelburne, Vermont 10 years ago. Originally from Chicago for over 50 years, my physician care there was exceptional. Dr. Northrup exceeded my expectations and she has always been straightforward, honest, and very professional. She listens and reacts when necessary, sending me to physician specialists when a hip or knee shows pain.

Horrible bedside manner
Unfortunately, when my doctor left, I was given Dr. Northrup as a new doctor. Her bedside manner leads much to be desired, and she doesn’t listen to anything you have to say it’s her way and that is it. She actually accused me of lying on my first visit, seriously. I have a number of health issues and I have no faith that she will address them appropriately. I am now changing practices.

Condescending
Thought I may have had a stroke and got in to see her as my regular doc was on vacation. She kept me waiting 35 minutes and spent 5 with me. Looked in my ears and didn't check anything else. I tried asking her questions and explaining what happened exactly, and tried to give her a bit of history (I had written all of that down so as to be concise). She said, "You have a problem you don't worry because you go to the Dr. and the Dr. tells you what it is and then you know and don't worry about it." WHAT?! And then she suggested antidepressants because I was anxious.

I was misdiagnosed and ignored and now I have irreversible damage because the wrong and/or lack of decisions were made. I was also prescribed a combo of drugs that could have killed me ... luckily, the pharmacist caught it. For every day, run of the mill issues, she is fine. But if it is something serious, I would suggest looking for another provider.

She was my primary care doctor for a number of years. Every visit I was misdiagnosed after only spending a very brief visit with me. I switched providers after I came in knowing I had a specific infection and was told I didn't and refused testing. Two days later, I ended up in the ER needing a CAT scan for the infection I knew I had. Would've saved me a lot of pain, radiation, and money if she had just listened to me!

She acted extremely inappropriately and insensitively to me, making fun of my psychological conditions, and wrongly connecting them with my pleading for her to help me find a specialist to diagnose my pain disorder (finally diagnosed later with 2 chronic illnesses when I switched to another primary doctor). When I firmly, but politely, asked her to please help me find an answer to my physical pain, she looked at me and said, half laughing, "Has anyone ever diagnosed you with borderline personality disorder?" Taken aback, since that was not the subject at hand, I said something along the lines of, "Uh, I think some psychiatrist might have considered it once" (though it had never been officially diagnosed, and in fact, was later confirmed NOT to be one of my diagnoses). She sneered at me and said, "I can tell." What a horrible thing to say to someone suffering trauma and debilitating pain every day? I left the practice then and there, crying my eyes out.
