Unprofessional Conduct and Lack of Patient-Centered Care My experience with Dr. Chiwai Chan at Pain Medicine Specialty Group was concerning due to his consistent lack of professionalism and dismissive approach to patient care. Throughout multiple appointments, I found him to be rushed, inattentive, and unwilling to engage in meaningful dialogue about my health concerns. When I respectfully asked questions to better understand my treatment plan, Dr. Chan became visibly frustrated and raised his voice, which created an uncomfortable and unprofessional environment. Rather than addressing my concerns, he abruptly discharged me from his care without providing clear reasoning or ensuring proper continuity of care. Additionally, I discovered inaccuracies in my medical records that did not accurately reflect the details of our appointments. When I formally requested corrections, my concerns were dismissed without proper review. This experience left me feeling unheard and unsupported. I encourage anyone seeking care from this provider to be proactive, advocate for themselves, and request copies of their medical records to ensure accuracy. Compassion, professionalism, and respect are fundamental in healthcare—unfortunately, I did not experience that here.

Dishonest Dr
He submitted a fabricated progress report for an exam that never took place. Failed to treat a disabled person for the same conditions I was treated for years prior. Failed to treat, provide standard of care or even diagnose me. The California Civil Rights Division, Osteopathic Board and MediCal as of tomorrow are being reported to.

Over 10 years as his patient
I understand how frustrating it is to be in pain and not be heard. I have never had a negative experience with PMSG & Dr Chan & all his staff. I will agree it’s close to impossible to reach them by phone, BUT.. I email them for anything I need and they respond the same day within the hour every time. SO much easier communicating with their staff this way. They always go out of there to make sure I’m good for the month. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Dr Chan himself but he was always helpful & Veronica his PA is extremely kind, understanding & helpful. Recently my insurance merged & they no longer accepted my insurance. The insurance company gave me the option to see a different pain management office, I immediately switched my insurance to the one PMSG takes so I can stay with Dr Chan & his staff. It was a pain to go see a primary and get another referral but the staff & Veronica made sure I’d be ok while I waited for it to process. Shout out to all the sweet girls at the front too!

I RECOMMEND YOU VIDEO AND AUDIO RECORD YOUR VISIT AS I DID. THIS DR SAID I WAS ARGUMENTIVE WHICH I WASNT. I PROVIDED HIS OFFICE WITH CURRENT MEDICAL REPORTS AND 2 PRESCIBED PAIN MEDICATIONS THEY ENTERED THEM FOR THE DOCTOR TO REVIEW, I RECORDED OFFICE STAFF DOING SO. THIS DR LIED IN PROGRESS NOTES SAYING THERE WAS NO REPORTS TO REVIEW, I HAD THEM IN THE EXAM ROOM WITH ME ALSO. HE SAID HE DIDNT NEED TO LOOK AT THEM CLEARLY ON THE RECORDING I TOOK. I WAS GIVEN 2 NORCO SCRIPTS, HE SAID ONLY 1 ON CURES. THEY WERE IN THE REPORTS HE FAILED TO READ THAT I PROVIDED.HIS PROGRESS NOTES SAY HE EXAMINED ME, THE VIDEO PROVES HE DIDN'T. HE ARGUED ER DR'S WOULDNT GIVE ME NORCO, I TOLD HIM ONCE ON THE RECORDING YOU ARE WRONG HIS NOTES SAY I KEPT TELLING HIM HES WRONG, A LIE. HIS NOTES SAY MY GOAL IS TO GET NORCO 3 TIMES A DAY. MY GOAL WAS TO RELIEVE BONE ON BONE SHOULDER PAIN FOR MY LEFT SHOULDER THAT WAS BEING REPLACED ON JULY 15. NO MENTION ON HIS PROGRESS NOTES OF A NPS DIAGNOSIS OR L SHOULDER.

Thank you Dr. Chan
I had a back surgery (NOT by Dr. Chan) in 2021 that did not go well and had multiple complications. My constant pain and decreased function has persisted. I thought I would just have to live like this and felt hopeless. I saw Dr. Chan a decade ago and his treatments kept me pain free for five years. When my problems returned I had to have surgery as I could barley walk. My surgery with another doctor was not a success due to factors beyond my surgeon’s control or mine. My point is, I found Dr. Chan once again and have received two steroid epidural shots from him over the past three months. The result of Dr. Chan’s remarkable precision and skill has given me hope when I had none left. Both shots helped me and I am looking forward to working with Dr. Chan further as he is the only physician that I feel can truly bring healing and relief to me with his expertise. Dr. Chan is a professional who takes his patient’s conditions seriously and he can help you too.

DEMON PRETENDING TO BE A DOCTOR – Feb 11, 2021

DANGER!!! DO NOT SEE DR. CHIWAII CHAN!!! I suffer from horrible pain due to many years of Fibromyalgia. I went in CONFIDENCE and horrible pain to see this monster who hurt me physically during an epidural. My first visit which there should had never being a second.Staff so rude just like him and they are liars.First visit he was trying to tell me "oh you don't look sick or that your in pain" Just imagine what that does to a person who suffers in pain 24/7 for 15 years and has questioned their life of why did this have to happen to me in sadness constantly. The guy behaved like a hateful cold hearted, godless individusl. But when you are in so much pain one just easily ignores sometimes even abuse from others.I was so desperate to make my pain go away that I made an appointment to have an Epidural.THIS WAS THE WORSE DAY OF MY LIFE!!!! This guy put me in the E.R INSTEAD.IT WAS WORSE THAN RAPE.NO MEANS NO!!!! HELL IS WHAT HE DESERVES.

If you suffer from CRPS, DO NOT see Dr Chan. He claims to be very knowledgeable of this disease, but through one meeting with him, has proven to be incompetent. A very condescending man laughing in my face when I mention another medical doctor (a rheumatologist) suggested that other symptoms were related to this condition. He made many statements that proved he knows NOTHING about CRPS. Please seek ANYONE else, he was forced onto me as a referral and I beg you, please seek someone who will arrived for her appointment at around 940am. I anticipated more traffic. I was told to be there near 10am to fill out paperwork. Appointment was at 1030am. In their initial paperwork they state that if you're late, your appointment will be canceled. A gentleman arrived at 1040 for a 1015 appointment and was seen right away. At 1050 I asked how long it would be and was told he was seeing two patients ahead of us. We left to use the restroom an we’re miraculously seen immediately.

Very dissapointed. I came from a different pain clinic who gave me subutex and they no longer accepted my insurance, dr chan and Gao gave me very little medicine compared to the subutex I was talking and now I'm in excruciating pain and full blown withdrawal and the dr won't help me . He told me to go to a detox or the e.r. what a horrible pain specialist. I have spinal fractures and need fusions at l4 l5, and he won't control my pain or my withdrawal. If he doesn't call today I'll find new dr

Dr. Chan doesn't spend a lot of time with you. He doesn't explain things well either and always seems to be in a hurry to help the next patient. I have seen him for three appointments now and I'm not impressed. I'll see what happens at the next appointment and if it's like the previous appointments, I will ask to see another pain specialist. I was in so much pain last week, I called the office during business hours and had to leave a message. They never called back.
