My mother is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. She has been through a lot to say the least. Before having surgery to remove the cancerous mass in her breast she saw Dr. Cheryl Williams who was supposed to place a radioactive seed into the tumor so the surgeon was sure to remove the right mass. Dr. Williams was about to inject the seed and my mother stressed to her that she was injecting it into the wrong area. Dr. Williams told her that she’s done this for many years and that there was no way her tumor was higher up like my mother was telling her. She made my mother feel silly and dismissed. Low and behold Dr. Williams was wrong. The seed DID in fact need to be placed higher and because of Dr. Williams’ dismissive attitude and inability to listen to her patient l, my mother was under anesthesia far longer than necessary and ended up with a GIANT scar. Her surgeon was appalled when. She saw her scar. She endured far more pain while healing. NMC did nothing to help. :(

I went for imaging of a painless breast lump, which was visible when lying down. After the imaging, Dr. Williams came in to talk about the findings. In short, there was nothing, I didn't know how to feel for a lump and I have an inflamed hair follicle on my skin (not near the lump) and that's why I was having pain. Of course, that's why there's pain in my painless lump. She made it seem as though I just walked in and demanded an ultrasound. I was referred by my Doc who felt it was needed.

Dr Williams was the most comforting, caring professional, I have met in this painful process.. I felt lucky to have her perform my biopsy today, she was so understanding and thoughtful. All of the staff at the Durham Center were kind and empathetic.
