Unprofessional and wrongly diagnosed
Misdiagnosed terribly! Guranteed me I did not have ALS. That same week I was diagnosed with ALS by another neurologist. Now 16 months later, there is no doubt I have ALS.

Avoid This Doctor
One of the most unprofessional Neurologists I’ve ever come across. Dr. Hughes was rude, condescending and judgmental. She lacks any form of humanity or compassion whatsoever and she will talk down to you like you’re a 2 yr. old. She wouldn’t listen when my husband was trying to tell her about his worsening symptoms, what his Neurosurgeon said about all the results of his brain scans, etc. and she kept talking over him repeatedly. She was more interested in trying to make my husband’s Neurosurgeon (who’s one of the best) look incompetent which told us everything we needed to know about *her* not only as a Dr., but also as a human being. When she suggested to my husband that he needs psychotherapy, our jaws dropped as my husband neither said or did anything to evoke such a response. Save your time, money, your sanity and go to a Neurologist who actually wants to practice medicine, listens to their patients, treats them with respect and has a modicum of professionalism.

Recommend Dr Hughes
I found Dr Hughes knowledgeable, thorough, she listened attentively and reviewed the medical records I brought. She proposed a plan of action which I found sensible and made it clear she is available if further issues arise. Time well spent.

Stay away
Dr. Hughes is arrogant and condescending. She does not like to be questioned, nor does she like it when a neurosurgeon refers you back to her because the odds of what she claimed was going on were “astronomically low.” If you ask for the referral she offers, she will write incorrect information on the referral (because she has spent less than 10 minutes with you and has no idea who you have or haven’t seen) and state you are looking for a “millionth opinion.” You will wait a long time to get in only to leave feeling frustrated, disappointed, and disrespected.

Stay Away
Dr. Hughes wins the distinction of being the most unpleasant doctor I've ever interacted with. When I brought graphs from SeizureTracker documenting my son's seizures, she made fun of my "little graphs." (His new neurologist was excited to see these.) When I was concerned about a possible reaction to a new seizure med the day after its start (turns out he had big, bad flu), she bawled me out for calling after hours. When we were slightly late due to bad traffic, she cancelled the appointment. Getting a handicapped person ready for an appointment isn't a small feat. I can't help but feel that her rude, imperious bedside manner - or complete lack of a compassionate bedside manner - unacceptably compromises patient care. Stay away.

Walked in to room and interduce her self and preceded to tell us what exams she wanted done. She had never seen us or examined spouse So we feel she had her mind made up about the care before the exam. We felt it was a waste of our time and money Would not recommend this DO to anybody Will not be seeing her again

She’s decent enough and certainly seems knowledgeable, but her interactions with this patient seemed insensitive. She also didn’t give complete, objective information, which I want. Spoke of only possible bad outcomes and appeared surprised I wasn’t relieved to hear these.

Dr. Hughes visited my mother in the hospital today after she suffered a stroke on Friday. She was rude (which I see in past comments must be a normal behavior for her). She had my mom very upset stating that her issues were related to mental health and not neurology based. She told my mom that she needed to see a psychiatrist and that she would order one for her chart and walked out leaving my mom crying. Luckily the hospital nursing staff called my dad at home to apologize on her behalf. I will be placing a formal complain with state medical board.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Hughes?
I was a patient of Dr Hughes for nearly 7 years. She had always been outstanding - until what ended up being my last visit. She came into the room angry and barely made eye contact with me. She accused her nurse of booking my appointment and making a treatment plan without her consent. None of that was accurate. She denied knowledge of my treatment plan that we had discussed at length over six months and advised she had no documentation. She told me something was "broken inside" me and that I would continue to be in pain until I fixed it. She called my treatment a "charade" and told me she would no longer treat me. All of this was completely out of the blue and without reason or justification. As she continued to verbally attack me, I teared up, upset that this doctor who had been my advocate for many years was treating me with such disrespect and hatred. She then told me that I was having an inappropriate emotional response and I would end up addicted to narcotics.

Dr. Hughes seems to have a tremendous number of patients, as she seems to have a set speech of what she wants to say. When different questions are posed for clarification, she does not seem to like it and becomes defensive. Did not realize the appointment was over as she left the room without saying a word. Will give benefit of doubt to see how treatment progresses.
