Dr Schweitzer saved my eye
Dr Schwent spent 3-hours in delicate surgery and saved me from blindness in my eye. I’m forever grateful for his expertise and compassionate care.

No personality.
Dr. Schwent was very technical and explained things very well but not much personality. The procedure was stressful and painful and he did not show that he cared about my being uncomfortable. When the procedure was completed he sat me upright very quickly and told me to come back in a month and left. No information on pain relief, how long my eye would be red, etc etc. The staff at Retina Institute Stony Point were fine but it is an assembly line process with lots of moving from room to waiting, room to waiting, etc. I was there for close to 3 hours when only with a staff member or Dr. for 30 minutes total.

high hopes but really disappointed
I went to multiple retinal surgeons before picking one. I was initially very happy with how he took time to answer my questions. I have multiple health issues that were a concern in how I would be impacted by surgery. I was clear with him. However, after surgery, he refused to deal with surgical problems that impacted my other health issues in a dangerous way such as infection and inflammation. I repeatedly had to go to other specialists for help. He denied that I was having pain and repeatedly changed his answers to questions. Additionally, he did so much more laser than discussed. This is not something I would have agreed to. Before having the second surgery, he claimed that my vision would not change and then, after, he said it would. Again, I ended up with rebound inflammation. He accused me of sending him a picture of my other eye. He claimed that removing the buckle would make my pain worse but my pain is gone. 6 months of my life didn't have to be this bad.
