Overall not the greatest experience
My first time going to his office after spine surgery in NY in 2020 was with his PA, who was pleasant. He was thorough and seemed like he wanted to help. His PA ordered a bunch of tests, which were completed, and the reports and imaging were supposedly sent to Dr. Cuddy's office. A month and a half later, I took a two-and-a-half ride to Summerville, SC, arriving early and sitting in the office for about an hour. Another one of his staff members brings us into the room. She has no idea what information I have other than my name. She proceeded only to ask bare-bone questions, and it seemed she was bothered by the visit. We waited another 15-20 minutes to have Dr. Cuddy walk in, ask me where I work, and proceed to refer me to pain management without doing any assessment and without looking at any of the imaging that was done. He explained already what was known, spoke over me the whole time, and barely took the time to do anything worthwhile to try to help my situation or my complaints.

Takes Shortcuts, Prescribed Incompatible Meds
Cuddy did not do a fusion like he said he would for my spouse’s left side sciatica. We went to lunch when my wife was taken to surgery and Cuddy was finished by the time we returned. He said that S1 didn’t look too bad so he only did L4-5. He instructed her to start back on the meds she was previously taking when she got home and he added two more.Unfortunately, the two meds he prescribed were very similar to two meds she was already taking and I called him on it, knowing the combination would dangerously depress her respiration. Obviously, he failed to check what she was taking before prescribing the additional meds and I got him to admit that the new meds were incompatible with her other meds. After a year or so my wife’s sciatica on her right side became extremely acute and subsequent scans showed that he had only placed a clamp on her left side. She had to undergo 4 hours of neurosurgery by a different surgeon to remove the clamp and do a proper fusion.I would not recommend him.

Great doctor and a wonderful practice.
Dr. Cuddy preformed a spinal fusion and laminectomy on me in March. I was up and walking that day without the pain I had been experiencing for a few years. The office staff, especially his assistant Chris Schafer, are wonderful. They took care of everything in a concerned and caring manner. I recommend Dr. Cuddy and his practice to all.

Dr Cuddy performed a double laminectomy on me in May 2005 on the L4-L5, L5-S1. I’m so glad I went through with the procedure. I’ve been able to ride horses, team rope, throw 50 lbs bales of hay, hunt, fish, and live life as if Ive never had a back problem and the scar is barely noticeable and only about 3” long.

Dr. Cuddy operated on my mother in law in August 2017. L4,L5 & S1. She has had the drop foot since the surgery. She cannot walk. It’s been almost two years. Still has drop foot. He seem to care about the incision but the about the problems the surgery caused. It’s has changed her life for the worst.

Dr. Cuddy is very personable. His PA, Chris and Sylvia his nurse are all friendly and very helpful. When I had to call I had a quick response with no problem. Office visits are informative. Dr. Cuddy takes his time to answer questions if you have any. He doesn't rush but he also doesn't sit around and waste his or your time. My surgery went well and I couldn't be happier. I've had NO pain since my surgery in January and am almost finished with PT. Life is great!)

I had a lumbar micro Discectomy after rupturing my disc @ L4 and L5. Dr. Cuddy was able to see me fast. He was very sincere, and very professional. His work was clean, quick and precise. I highly recommend him to anyone dealing with similar back issues.

I had ACDF surgery by Dr. Cuddy. My husband and I felt very comfortable with him and trusted him fully. I have recovered excellently. We find him to be knowledgeable, professional, caring, and he also extended a personal touch of interest by personally calling us. Word of mouth is important and anyone who we've spoken to who knows him has spoken highly of him. His PA, Chris Schaffer is also excellent.

Polite but condescending. Asked him a few clarifying clinical questions that he couldn't answer. Waited over an hour and was told this is normal. I had a bad feeling in my gut so decided not to trust Dr. Cuddy to cut my neck open. I later learned from other's that he is NOT the best. MUSC/Cooper have some great neurosurgeons. His office staff all could use a courtesy class.

He is a top notch surgeon. But he is honest enough to refrain from performing surgery when surgery is not the best answer for your condition. He has performed surgery on me a few times. But only when it will help. And when he does surgery, he has the best recovery experience possible. Even major surgery can involve a next-day hospital discharge.
