Dr Rath is extremely knowledgeable and personable. His bed side manner is very good and he cares about his patients.

Doesn't just practice medicine-He knows medicine
Dr. Rath was my mother, dads, and my doctor years ago. With his fingers he was able to discover an aneurism in my father's abdomen. When I fell off a roof he took me out of his system so I could be operated on by the best orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Duwelius. Thanks to that decision I now have 14 titanium rods in my hip and pelvis and can walk normally. Thanks to Dr. Rath being so smart I have a normal life.

Dr. Rath was my PCP for about 10 years. He really does care about people and has great integrity. As long as you trust him implicitly and follow his instructions, he's the best doctor you will ever know. However, if you challenge him or make your own choices you see a different side of him. If you fall in the latter category, you can expect comments in your after visit summary about non-compliance. I had great relationships with the rest of my care team (ophthalmologist, podiatrist, ob/gyn, CDE, etc) but visits with him became challenging. I chose to go with a new PCP after a significant move and our relationship is much less combative.

Good guy in my opinion, tells it like it is, some people can't take that and want to stay in a surreal invention of their own.

He's a great doctor and we highly recommend him to our friends, etc. The only drag is so many people know he's a great doctor and most appointments need to be planned in advance and he's too busy when a patient has those unexpectedly falling sick or injury appointments.

After reading great reviews and noting he had been listed on Portland's top doctors list I had high expectations of Dr. Rath. I saw him to establish a PCP relationship. He was judgemental and in my opinion out of line. He told me I should not get a vasectomy because I should have more kids or I was likely to get divorced and remarry. He also stated that as a 38 year old I should have no reason to be Stressed. He made several other judgemental and condescending statements. Never going back.

Many Doctors talk to you from behind their clipboards never even making eye contact! Dr. Rath comes in, asks you to tell him about your issues and works through the diagnosis like a scientist! You feel included in the diagnosis process! Also, he is very thorough in his examination. Further, his philosophy on use of prescription drugs is exactly as long as it is needed - not one dose more! Not only do both myself and my wife go to him, we also recommend him to our friends! He is the best!!!
