Patient abandonment
Seeing Butz was never the problem nor was his office help. He left, closed his NM office without notice and left us all in the dark. Turned off the phone rather than leaving a message for his patients. I found out 3 days before my prescriptions needed to be filled. 2 of those days were the weekend. No meds Monday. His California office is telling me the same old tired lies. We don't have your records. He closed his office so he can't write prescriptions in NM any more. For shame!

Exceptional talent
Dr Butz has been front and center to the quality of my life since he came to Chico. He is brilliant, creative and exceptionally talented at exploring multiple avenues of successful pain management. His calendar is in constant “overload” due to his caring talents. You might have to wait beyond your appointment time to see him, but when it takes place, you have his absolute undivided attention exploring your pain issues and possible steps that may be taken…I am able to STAND up and actually WALK because of his incredible ingenuity. I feel so blessed to be his patient !!

Dr. Butz intruded on a visit a patient was having with a nurse practitioner in the office to yell at and bully the patient. The patient was not only in a lot of pain, but he also has PTSD, is hard of hearing and had been sitting waiting to be seen for two hours. The appointment was almost over, the patient was speaking loudly (not arguing or yelling at the practitioner) because he is hard of hearing and very stressed. Patient and practitioner were doing fine (but loud) when Dr. Butz decided he had to "rescue" the other health professional by barging in and yelling/lecturing the patient. This was not only demeaning to his associate nurse practitioner (he felt he had to rescue her because she was female) but also demeaning and DANGEROUS to the patient who has been on opiates for 20 years or so and was unable to get his appropriate medicine and now is going into withdrawals.

Excellent care. New office staff works hard to get you taken care of. Very professional and caring for his patients. Very knowledgeable and works with insurance companies to get prior authorizations completed quickly. Would recommend him for pain management.

I have been a patient of dr. Butz for several years now. I have degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and spinal stenosis. He has been able to treat me with pain relief medication, physical therapy, and surgical procedures. It sometimes takes a while to see him in his office because he does take extra time with patients when they need it. He has on occasion taken extra time speaking to me about options for surgical procedures. He explains things well and completely in terms that

I have been Dr Butz’s patient for 8 months & though he is professional and knowledgeable, I wonder just how long I can continue being his patient, as everything concerning logistics for treatment is a nightmare. There seems to be a lot of staff turnover & try getting a call back from their office...it’s just not going to happen. Don’t get me started on their cancellations of my appt/procedures. Overall, the office is overwhelmed and incapable of operating properly.

My husband has a broken neck that fused back together wrong. My husband called and the woman on the phone tells my husband that they need to get his referral from your doctor and they would call when they get it and schedule his appointment. 3 1/2 months later no call. I then for 2 weeks straight keep calling and the phone just rings. Found out they moved and they didn't even inform the doctors that are referring people to them that, that location is closed. 1 hour away availability Jan. NOT!!!!

Dr.Butz is the only Dr. that has been able to help relieve my severe neck pain. He is very caring, personable, and compassionate. I've had neck pain for at about 38 years, been to many doctors and had numerous kinds of treatments and therapy. Dr. Butz is the only Dr. that has made the pain bearable. I always recommend him to anyone I know.

When I moved here I was in a lot of neck pain, on my first visit, he assured me he could help. One injection later and I've had no neck pain for 5 yrs. He also diagnosed the issues with my lower back and leg pain. Several injections later, I feel so much better. I have high praise for Dr. Butz and those that assist him. Sure the office staff needs some with office management, but they are good in their jobs. I'd love to be the office mgr.

Butz's staff - receptionist and accounting - are just too busy to help the patient --- and they will tell you that! Need help with a form? Questions about billing? Need an appointment soon? --- Go SOMEWHERE ELSE!
