Failure to Perform Diagnostic Tests/Misdiagnosis
Took my son in to the ER for signs of a possible shunt malfunction, and the doctor refused to order diagnostic testing which consists of a CT scan of the brain and a shunt series (x-rays of the shunt tract down to the abdomen). He asked my son if he had a headache, and my son lied and told him no. I objected, but he refused to look at or accept my paperwork from the court naming my husband and I as our son's legal guardians (he was 18 at the time). Doc said he was refusing to prescribe any pain meds, which I hadn't asked for because it would be too dangerous given my son's altered mental status and extreme lethargy. He was extremely rude. 24 hours later in a bigger city, my son was diagnosed with a shunt malfunction and he was in emergency brain surgery at 1 am because his shunt system malfunctioned. That 24 hours nearly killed my son. I filed a complaint with the hospital, but unsure of the outcome.
