Stellar Surgeon and Clinician
Dr. Bobby Tay changed my life; I don’t know how to thank him. I can now walk. I am beyond grateful, there is no reward high enough. I can now stand and walk fairly comfortably--a miracle that I never thought I’d experience. I now need to forge a new identity around being able to move. I am now a month out from lumbar spinal fusion—his work is exemplary. I was in the hospital for three days, during which I had some hiccups in the recovery process and Dr. Tay was an absolute rock star during the process: he came in twice to chart a course for follow-up and pharmacological intervention, ordered necessary tests, the entire time I felt like he was on top of it, very reassuring. His office is responsive via MyChart, e.g. when I have a question, they respond ASAP. I lucked out and then some, can’t imagine having had a better surgeon. He is personable, informative, educational, experienced, no superlatives can do him justice. My spine could not have been in better hands. His follow-up spot on

It took a long time to get an appointment with Dr Tay but once I was in it seemed like I was his only patient. He listened carefully to my questions and my wife's. The complicated surgery relieved decades long pain and changed my life for the better. He is the best.

Rude and arrogant
I spoke to three clinic directors about my need for non surgical back care. Bobby Tay was recommended. As I waited in an exam room giving a history to a resident, Tay burst in, never looking at me or my husband, and said yo the resident” What do we have here?”When we asked for non surgical options, he got up, went to the door, yelling,” Who scheduled this non-surgical patient em with me?” He dragged three directors in to ask who did it? Then he said he wouldn’t see me and said no charge for today. But he had required an MRI and X-ray to the tune of over $800 for us, but after much back and forth with the orthopedic director snd the so-called leadership, he refused to reimburse. His director wrote a condescending letter that sounded like an ad for ucsf. I’ve been a nurse for forty years and never saw such nonsense From anyone actually who cares about patients. Very upset and disappointing to be teated this way by an MD and the institution that continues to toot its own horn.

Bobby Tay has worked on my spine since 2003. I have had six back surgeries with Dr. Tay. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Dr. Tay. His expertise has saved my life more than once. I live a totally normal life today, thanks to Dr. Tay. Dr. Tay’s bedside manner, approachable communication manner, and concern for his patience is above reproach. I feel it is an honor to recommend Dr. Tay as a highly talented, personable neurosurgeon. It has been a privilege to build a very valuable working relationship as one of Dr. Tay’s patients.
