EXTREMELY RUDE
He was EXTREMELY RUDE and did not listen to us at all. I never want to talk to him again, and I do not recommend him.

I went to see dr. Lau specifically to discuss with him my daughter's developmental delays. When I booked the appointment I asked the receptionist to note the file that this was the main reason that I was coming in to see him. Having seen the note he probably anticipated that the meeting would not be a regular ordinary Pleasant meeting. This had to have affected his attitude because from the second he walked through the door he was nothing short of impatient and downright rude to both my husband and myself. Anytime my husband and I tried to ask a question he would cut us off. He basically just referred us to early intervention, refused to comment any further and said allow them to do their job and allow me to do mine. I am a paralegal and so I understand getting right down to the facts with someone however when you choose a doctor especially a pediatrician you expect them to be sensitive to the child and the parents of that child. Dr Lau really needs to retake courses in sensitivity tra

Took my son to see Dr. Lau yesterday and he was beyond offensive & downright rude to not only me, but my 4 year old as well. At the end he asked if I had any questions, I said no and then asked my son if he had any questions for the doctor, and when my son very shyly bought up a very private concern of his, Dr. Lau said, "that's not a question" as he walked out and slammed the door in our faces. You have to be one ugly person to be treating a 4 year old like that. Why are you a pediatrician?

Terrible doctor. Insulting, rude, and down right mean. Changing practices because I will never expose my baby to this man again.

The worst doctor I met. My sons have the routine checkup but he charged me for both well check and office visit because he claimed he did provide the consultant. However, the entire checkup, only the assistance doctor to examine my sons. He only came in and repeated the same things that the assistance doctor told me.

WORST PEDIATRICIAN EVER! Waited 2 hours to see this doctor. I saw him leave the room next to us and go into the doctor lounge. He was in there for 20 plus minutes talking to another doctor about CARS. I couldn't believe it. I went to the front desk twice to let them know I can hear him talking /hanging out & that we had been waiting for 2 hours (no exaggeration). Then when he finally decides to come in the room he says you have to go to a specialist. He was RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL!!

Dr. Lau makes anchoring diagnoses, meaning he jumps to conclusions about a diagnosis very quickly before hearing the patient's entire story. He's never less than 1.5 hours late to an appt - maybe that is why he interrupts every few seconds. He can be rather condescending. Dr. Lau actually had the audacity to tell us that he was throwing us out of our appointment for which we waited two hours because the office was officially closed! Had to leave & come back one visit I was waiting so long!

I happen to think Dr. Lau is one of the best pediatricians I have taken my daughter to. He has a quirky sense of humor which I thoroughly enjoy because I feel like I am talking to a regular person, not a Dr. who feels or acts like they are holier-than-thou. He has always spent a decent amount of time with us at appointments and never made us feel rushed even though I know a pediatrics office can get crazy - especially a large one like Stony Brook.

I would never recommend Dr. Lau to anyone for any reason. He has no bedside manner and makes inappropriate comments. He claims that great doctors usually receive poor reviews because they are upset with the advice received from the physician. In this case Dr. Lau is receiving a poor review for making culturally and religiously insensitive comments, for asking my wife and I if we had any questions and then promptly suggesting that we were taking up too much of his time with our questions.
