For anyone thinking of getting bariatric surgery I would highly recommend Dr. Aziz Merchant and his amazing team! I struggled with my weight for years and made some consultations with a couple different surgeons discussing options. None of these surgeons or staff provided me with what I was looking for in terms of treatment and care. That is until I walked into Dr. Merchant's office and was greeted by him and his team. Dr. Merchant showed understanding, compassion, and empathy. He addressed my concerns and answered all my questions in a very thoughtful, respectful, and truthful manner. I knew at that moment, after years of searching and trying, that I found the team that was going to treat me. We decided on performing the gastric sleeve. During this journey, I got to meet and be guided by Ingrid Alfano, the nurse practitioner, of the bariatric surgery. Ingrid was always there to answer questions, to help guide me both pre and post operatively. She was an outstanding partner on this journey. Ingrid also led with compassion and empathy and took you by the hand throughout the entire process. Working with Ingrid was truly a special experience. I also worked with Jamaica Laluces, Medical Assistant, who was fantastic with answering my many emails and requests for information, especially concerning insurance and scheduling. The entire team was supportive and worked diligently to make me feel comfortable and set me up for success. This process is a very personal one filled with many emotions and having a dedicated caring team by your side was truly a gift. I am down 120 pounds since the surgery and feeling great! Each person's journey is different, but I have to say that mine thus far has been wonderful. The surgery went without any complications and the post operative care was extraordinary. I had no adverse events and very minimal side effects or symptoms. It has been a true gift. If anyone is thinking of embarking on their own journey, I would enthusiastically recommend making a consultation appointment with Dr. Merchant and the amazing team! You will not be disappointed and you will be greeted by individuals who care about you and your success!!

only 20 yrs, obviously not the experience or education of someone with 40 years HOW CAN I EVEN GIVE TWO TSARS - after 4 weeks this office HAS NOT EVEN SCEDUULED ME for a common NON Invasive SURGERY *** -1 STARS ***

He did my ventral hernia repair and the experience was amazing. Very knowledgeable , soft spoken and reassuring doctor.

Dr. Merchant and his staff were the only medical team to properly identify an unknown mass scrotum. For years different doctors just told me it was a cyst and not to worry. Dr Weiss (at the same facility) had properly diagnosed my issue has an inguinal hernia and set up an appointment with Dr. Merchant and his team. Dr. Merchant also did diagnosis and agreed I had an inguinal hernia. We set a date in the not too far future for minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. He thoroughly went over the risks, recovery and general happenings of the procedure. Calm, collected, never rushed and always made the experience and visits actually quite pleasurable. I felt confident going into surgery. Surgery was a success and post surgery recovery I came in multiple times on my own accord to make sure everything was going smoothly. He obliged every visit and I am about 2 1/2 months later feeling much better and very satisfied with the experience. Amazing doctor and team, highly recommended.

He is an excellent Doctor and an excellent Surgeon. Before we met him around July, my mother had lost 30+ pounds of weight approx. in last few months. After we met him, he diagnosed it correctly and narrowed down the cause. He was able to do the correct diagnosis very fast and due to this he has to perform the procedure in a very short duration too, to prevent further loss of health and weight. The surgery was successful. It has helped my mother to start gaining health. In case of emergencies, Doctor Merchant has personally taken time out of his personal hours / off hours and returned our calls. He is awesome and a Nobel person. He and hist staff including nurses, office mgmt, are very professional and extremely courteous. They do not return any stone unturned, for the well being and care of the patient. I salute their sincerity and professionalism.

My experience with Dr. Merchant and UMDNJ staff was great. I had hernia surgery and a portion of my intestines removed for diverticulitis. Not only was the visits pre surgery reassuring, and informative but everything he told me about what to do in preparation for the surgery was on point. I would recommend Dr Merchant be given a top notch rating

Dr. Merchant fixed my hernias through minimally invasive robotic surgery. He is friendly, caring and professional. He explained well what would be done, followed through with it and my recuperation was very fast with no complications. I was sick for months and when I went to Dr Merchant he knew exactly what my problem was. He sent me for a few tests just so he could see how he needed to proceed with my care. My surgery was preformed on July 11th of 2018 and as of today September 29th I have had no pain and am completely healed and have not had any problems, Dr Merchant and his entire staff and students were the best and I will recommend him to anyone who needed surgery as well as any I would need in the future. Recently, i had a gallbladder surgery with Dr Merchant. The surgery took less than 40 minutes and I was able to go home in less than 4 hours after surgery. Dr merchant is very nice, communicative and very open. He explained to me how he will approach the surgery and what I should expect. Finally. I can only recommend him for his expertise, communication skills, and the way he make people very comfortable.
