Extraordinary healer
Dr K is the rare physician who treats you as she would treat her own family. While there is a wait for an appointment, it is because she is in great demand. Nurses told me she a physician of choice for other doctors in the area. If you have the patience to get an appointment, she can change your life if you have a chronic illness like I do.

Dr Kahpra spent a lot of time with me after my procedure to explain in normal terms what she found out, what caused it, and how to correct it. I have been following her orders for 2 months and my symptoms have disappeared. I would give her 6 stars if I could!

I rarely write negative reviews. As a patient, I felt disregarded. I wish my physician, Dr. Khapra, took my procedure seriously throughout the procedure and after. I should have received my post-op diagnosis when I spoke my physician after the procedure. I felt neglected as a patient. This was a waste of money and a waste of service. Either she is terrible at communicating or she made it difficult to talk, which only escalated the problem. The office said I should be able to talk to her through the online portal but no one answered me back. Now I wished I looked at her reviews before scheduling an appointment.

Dr. Khapra is great but the office is run so badly. I called in to get an appointment because of an ulcer, and she was booked for two months. That is understandable, but the best her receptionist could do was to offer a telemed appointment two weeks from now. How can you do a breath test for bacteria via telemed?! I had called and left a message for Dr. Khapra’s nurse a day earlier and never received a call back. Not a great way to run a practice. I wouldn’t recommend.

Referred to MD in the practice, but was booked. Settled for Dr Khapra who ordered diag exam to measure esophageal function. Her PA called after rcpt of results. MD wanted me to meet w/PA to discuss 4 options to include surgery. Stated I wanted to speak w/MD. PA said OK & booked 8:30 am appt. When receptionist called my name it was to meet w/PA. I said,"No." & requested my file be closed & forwarded to PCP. MDs from GWU med school etc tend to act as if they are superior to the patient.

Extremely unreliable in terms of availability. I got an appointment for my mother with a wait of 2 months. After a month a got a call saying that the doctor was canceling the appointment and the next appointment is another 2 months out. So 4 months wait. Even at the scheduled appointment Dr Khapra is consistently late. Patients are encouraged to see physician assistants instead. It’s time Dr Khapra stopped accepting new patients. This is bringing a bad name to the GANV practice.

Dr Khapra is a good doctor, if you're lucky enough to get an appointment in time. Her schedule is mostly booked for weeks (if not months) and you have to settle with seeing her physician assistant if there is anything urgent. She also keeps you waiting at her appointments and seldom shows up on time. She should stop accepting new patients. I may move on to another gastroenterologist.

Doctor Asma Khapra was referred to me by a 5 star OBGYN who has been voted Top Doctor multiple years in a row in our region. But even with that, I made 3 appointments with different gastrointestinal doctors to essentially interview them and discuss the issues I was having. I wound up choosing Dr. Khapra and thank goodness I did. She has a wonderful bedside manner (kind), & is knowledgable without being self-important. My procedure was painless, the staff attentive, and the follow-up perfect!

A++++. In December 2016, Dr. Khapra performed a colonoscopy on me at INOVA Woodburn Surgery Center. She was outstanding, as was all the surgical team. She has great bedside manner, is an effective communicator and took time after the procedure to provide me with a detailed summary of the procedure with pictures and recommended the timeframe for my next colonoscopy, 7-10 years. Dr. Khapa is providing a report to my primary care doctor. I did not have to ask her for it.

I have Crohn's disease. When I was in remission and had no urgency to see the Dr, my experience was fine. When I came out of remission and really needed help, however, it was almost impossible to be seen (and then it only by PAs). It took weeks of pain and waiting to get on medication. In addition, my most recent colonoscopy resulted in so much blood loss that I almost had to get a blood transfusion . Dr. Khapra never called or checked on me once. As far as I can tell, she does not care at all.

While I really liked Dr. Khapra's bedside manner, approachability, availability and appearance of knowledge, she made a HUGE mistake that landed me in the hospital and could have easily killed me. She took me off the two medicines I knew were helping and put me on a medicine that is known to leach magnesium (already magnesium deficient and on supplements) and has a black box warning for prolonging QT intervals. The med was expensive and not necessary (many other safer options). BE CAUTIOUS.

Dr. Khapra is extremely kind, caring, and a skilled GI physician. She took the time to understand a urological condition that I also have and personalized the approach to diagnosing my IBS. She spent at least 20 minutes talking to me and my husband after a procedure - even at the end of a long day in the surgery center. Her office is very responsive in sharing test results and dealing with insurance issues. I would highly recommend Dr. Khapra to my friends, family and colleagues.
