New patient visit
I will was seeing the doctor after reading good reviews as my previous pcp practice had suddenly closed and I need to see another physician for a yearly wellness visit by Medicare. Front desk receptionist was friendly and gave me a small tour of other services that I could receive in the future should I need to and results would be sent to the Cary Hospital or Raleigh campus.

Seemingly uninterested
I've been a patient of Dr. Afzal's for almost two years now and have had plenty of chances to experience intentional care, but have yet to. She's not an unintelligent practitioner, which makes her lack of interest in my issues even more confusing. She is not a collaborative practitioner and talks at you instead of with you. Once I asked what I should do if my symptoms continue after taking a medication she had prescribed, and her response was 'Sometimes we just experience things and there's nothing we can do about it'. She also seemed very resigned to the eventual outcome of some genetic predispositions, and not too interested in preventative care and management. Extremely blasé bedside manner, but it seems to depend on who you are. My friend, in contrast, has received excellent care from Dr. Afzal. I will not be returning.

I needed a new doctor, and Dr Afzal saw me right away. She took so much time with me, explained everything in detail, and could have not been more thorough. Also, I liked her very much personally! Highly recommend!

Dr. Afzal is a great physician, my husband and I have been going to her office every year for our preventive appointments. It is a shame that the billing department is unresponsive and inefficient. Don't count on them helping you with any inquiry or fixing their mistakes.

Dr. Afzal is caring, and professional. I have been seeing her for more than two years, and on each visit, she has taken the time to answer all of my questions and explain any referrals or medications she was prescribing. I would recommend Dr. Afzal to others without reservation.

I have been a patient of Dr. Afzal for a year. In our several visits, she rushed through appts and was not clear in explaining any medication she prescribed. She never shook my hand and made any effort to even pretend she remembered my name. She was nonchalant about selecting meds for me, and consistently seemed distracted and hurried. I don't trust her! The one good thing I will say is that she was very communicative in the routine female physical procedures she administered.

Really did not seem interested conducting my check up and helping me. She rushed through the exams and was irritated when I asked questions. She asked my which medication I wanted to be in and I said that I had no idea (How am I supposed to know, I have no medical expertise), and she was irritated by that too and seemed to pick one at random. Impression that she doesn't really care and just wants to make money treating patients.

I went to Dr. Afzal when I was very sick with a bad cough. When I saw the doctor, I was made uncomfortable because she was wearing a surgical mask and did not shake my hand. She did not explain what she thought I had and why she was prescribing meds. Bronchitis? Pneumonia? I have no clue. She seemed rushed and barely looked at a lump I'd asked her about. I'd called two days later because I was still coughing, and they didn't call me back for 2 days. I will not be returning nor referring.

She is my hero. Through her persistance, she made an appointment for my husband with a urologist who discovered his stage 2 cancer and was able to treat it and he is now cancer free. She takes her time to sit with you and listens to you. So glad we found her!
