Poor patient service
Dr. Tarantino did not listen to my husband and what he wanted. He was hard with his answers, and on top of that after the surgery he left me a message and said the surgery was not successful. I called him back several times to talk to him and he never bothered to call me back. I also found him to be very uncaring in Tommy's situation, Doctors make mistakes and I know that, but his doctor never called me back to explain anything. If he was the last doctor on earth I would never go to him.

Dr. Tarantino's office believes the medical community's reputation for poor patient service could be worse, and they are succeeding in proving it.

Although I had discontinued seeing Dr. Tarantino, at this point I want to leave a warning. A couple of years back he was very motivated to biopsy my prostate based only on PSA scores. Subsequently I learned that ( my current Urologist and several of people I know with other doctors) indicate much less evasive testing is done first. An example is an MRI that would allow someone like me to avoid a biopsy that is negative. My biggest concern is when I called and spoke to his nurse and asked about medication to address my enlarged prostate. The nurse reported that my prostate (according to Dr. Tarantino) is too big to benefit. When I asked what is the cutoff size the nurse called back and said OK it will be prescribed. I found this episode very concerning and found another Urologist for future treatment.

I was seen by Dr. Tarantino for an acute problem. Two weeks later, I was told by his nurse (by phone) that I would need a procedure which required general anesthesia. I showed up for the procedure and was told by the urologist performing the surgery (not Dr. T.) that I was scheduled for an entirely different procedure. I never heard directly from Dr. Tarantino himself after the 1st appointment.

I had 3 kidney stone treatments at Hartford Hospital, done by doctors in Dr. Tarantino's group, but I had office visits with Dr. Tarantino after each treatment. He had the rather difficult job of informing me as to why I needed to have another lithotripsy, what the potential problems were, and why he was recommending a particular course of action. He did an excellent job explaining every thing to me, listening to my concerns and getting me to the end of my treatment with a minimum of stress.
